 Purchasing memory
Ok. I'm about to go in my first solo purchase of .5gig mem. As I don't wish unplanned happenings, I ask if someone could say me what I should be aware of. Compatibility with the board? With the other mem modules? Performances/Price? Possible threacheries? etc.

All I know is DDR good. Other than that, apparently, memory prices are cheap right now, so buy it while it's low.

if you're adding to the some existing RAM, make sure the speed is the same.
IE, don't stick together pc2700 and pc4000...all that will happen is the pc4000 will run at pc2700 speeds, so you wasted money.
If one set of RAM has a cas of 3, don't bother getting cas 2 for the other stick. Same reason.
Don't go for crap RAM. Don't buy RAM that has ECC (it's a pointless expense in your case). errr....can't think of much else.

yea, basically. Unknown or low-quality RAM is a bad idea.
Good brands (imo):
Mushkin
Corsair
Kingston
Even their lower-quality RAM is still quality RAM...it's not going to crap out on you like some of hte no-name brands will.
Also, if I may suggest, get a UPS (uninterruptible power supply). I don't care about the battery backup capabilities, but what it'll do it regulate power to keep power spikes from frying your shit. I just had to deal with a machine that I built that looks like it suffered from dirty power. Good RAM went bad in record time. Prior to that (a month or three) I had to replace motherboard/processor/RAM on the same box. Prior to that, I had to replace the power supply/ At thsi point, since I'm not buying crap components, I'm thinking bad power.
