 Medieval: Total War
I got this game just recently and have been playin it instead of revising for exams. Im pretty stuck at the moment as i dont know how to defeat Mongolian Horse Archers. (Very annoying)
Has anyone played it?
I think overall its a bit of a clumsy game.

one of the guys who lives near me has a copy so i've seen it played, never actually played it myself like but you know...
yeah it is quite an arkward game, but still fairly fun
best tactic against any horse archers is light cavalry i think, i'm not sure
my mate just normally trounces everything with Chivalric Sargents, Royal Knights and Pavaise Crossbowmen
who you playing as? how far you got?

Im currently playing as the English in the High Period campaign, but ive really only just stuck to this one because i have a chance of survival.
Ive managed to keep a useful alliance with the French to buy me the time to launch an attack on the Germans.
Its going quite well. I annihalated them in the first battle where i used Longbowmen, Feudal Men-at-arms and Feudal knights and Royal knights.
Basically i outmanuvered the Germans in a battle which i took 350 prisoners from.
The second battle was different. I had to attack Toulouse, but to do so, cross a bridge.
Won this also. Peppered the enemy arbalestiers then charged with armoured infantry.
The germans arent really putting up the fight that i thought they would.

no one puts up a fight
the only difficult bit about that game is when you have such a huge empire you need to leave behind largish armies in your countries because otherwise they all want to bloody rebel against you....apparently that's really annoying

Im not having that problem at the moment with my mediumish empire. But thats only because i like to build alot of farms, inns and palaces. So that kinda stops the rebellions. Oh and i keep a pretty close eye on taxation and loyalty too.

Just want to bring this up because ive been playing it ALOT recently.
Started a new campaign from scratch with the Italians. Now im in 1350, and am facing problems.
It was easy going for the first 100 years because I was trading and making peace. My economy was the strongest, and the only military activity i engaged in was occupying rebel held provinces.
Suddenly, everyone turned against me. I had to rush and make armies to defend my homelands. I had technical superiority due to my strong economy to i found not problem in defending my lands from Germans, Sicilians and Spanish.
Eventually, i was exocummunicated by the Papacy due to my counter-attacks.
But i held on.
I waged war against the bastard spanish and won many battles and lost few. I was in a position whereby i could arrange a ceasefire and recover my economy. I took it. I tried to make peace and alliew with everyone, but no one was interested. I somehow had the feeling that they all had a mutual hate-fear relationship with me.
Why so? I was a happy-chappy trading nation. I never ever initiated war against a faction, ever.
Soon enough, the Spanish broke the ceasefire, the French joined in, the Polish, the Germans, the Sicilians and so the Byzantines. This time i was prepared. My strong overseas trade allowed me to support lots of superior armies of Halberdiers, Genoese archers, Chivilric Cavilry, Chivilric Men at Arms and

off I went again, this time fighting on 5 different fronts and holding admirably while gaining territory at the same time.
Yet again, i got exocommunicated for defending myself. I even got attacked by the Papacy. No big deal, I sent a halberdier army to cut down the Popes Royal Knights and control The Papal States.
Things looked good though. I was making large territorial acquisitions, and my enemies were starting to crumble and fall into rebellion. Not even the mongols could stand in my way.
However then came the turning point. The Spanish, who were my strongest enemy became surrounded and cut off in Spain. I had occupied all of the Spanish N.African provinces and soon eliminated all Spanish armies remaining.
The Spanish had gone.
My armies tired and in need of upgrading and retraining would hold their position until i could arrange ceasefires just for the sake of regaining some economy.
That was done largely unsuccessfully, but it didnt matter. As i began to march the troops back to the homeland to re-arm. The unthinkable happened.
My king whom i had left in Constantine died prematurely of illness and was replaced my his rediculously incompetent son. This guy was an idiot. With only 2 points of Influence and 2 in Piety and NONE in Command, many provincial lords distrusted him and rebelled. My main generals remained loyal, because they were truly excellent generals, but in the space of 1 year there was civil war.
Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Mercia, Norway, Leon, Morocco, Algeria, Granada, Anjou, Provence and TUSCANY! fell into rebellion.
I was unable to sign ceasefires for my already over-stretched economy, and soon enough I was doomed.
I could not support my armies to regain my lands for enough time with my economy. I had lost the game, just when i thought i was going to win it.
THE END.

hahahahaha, only just read that, it's been a while, but that really is the worst way to lose
i've now played it myself, was the english, started in the early period, conquered everyone
only problem is the battels start to get really boring, the strategy is much more interesting in my opinion
