They had a "Portal 2 event" planned for E3 but have sent out a strange press release announcing its cancellation and replacement with a 'surprise'. Could it be? Episode 3?!

Portal 2 is still shown at E3, just the event slot is used for something else. Clever clever Valve. They probably had this planned long ago. We do similar stuff at my job too...planning fake meetings as 'placeholders' in case we actually need to hold an urgent real meeting when the time comes.
Regardless of how incredibly jaded you bastards are, I think it's pretty much agreed on that the Episodes have been top notch gaming fun. And seeing as how this is the supposed final piece of the HL2 story, I don't think it'll just be a 7-hour episode like before (if it is Ep 3).
And as much as I'd like to see the engi update, seems unlikely that they'll use an E3 slot to announce it.
