Check it - they've gone for a whole "back to the past" thing. It's pretty funnily done, with reviews and previews for X-Com, Syndicate, Betrayal at Krondor etc. And the comments tend to be funny as well. :)

I enjoy April fool's jokes. Slashdot is, as usually, just stuffed full of them. Even the Large Hadron Collider got involved, though it's so unfunny, either there's some hidden physics humor in there, or it was written by a physicist.

Physicists working on the LHC results have announced their first discovery: a hideous particle from the prehistory of the Universe

The news is historic, or rather "prehistoric" to be more precise! It has taken two physicists studying the collisions at 7 TeV in the centre of mass on 30 March only two days to make an astonishing discovery. From their precise analysis of four events, Alain Grand and Ricarda Owen have found evidence of a new, massive neutral particle thought to have existed in the very early Universe. "It's awful", explains Alain Grand, still shocked by the discovery. "It left horrible tracks inside the detector that made the physicists on duty at the time feel quite sick". No wonder. The particle consists of two strange quarks and one top quark but no beauty or charm quark. The physicists have nicknamed it the "neutrinosaurus" because of its repulsive appearance and prehistoric origins.

haha you know what, that one might actually be a good idea. Get all these 'brain washed thugs' that we keep being told we are coz we play video games, and teach us to be refined, upstanding citizens via Halo Chess. Chess with rocket launchers, if that won't get kids interested in intelligent strategy games, nothing will!

Don't we already have Star Wars Chess to draw in the popular crowds? ;)

I remember battle chess from the early to mid 90s. That was pretty cool. It was real chess, but the pieces would violently murder one another when you took a piece.

I believe that Battle chess was a lot earlier than that. I recall being a child and that was the only way my dad could get me to sit down at the computer and play chess. I loved it because it reminded me of the game in Star Wars where the pieces would kill each other.
