Just bought this game last night while chatting with Ox, for £2.99. It only came to my attention as I saw a mod release splashed accross the Steam frontpage.

Anyway, I purchased Ostfront last night, which is the 1st release, and I was able to automatically download 2 seemingly major mods, right away.

Ostfront = Eastern Front
Mare Nostrum = North Africa
Darkest Hour = Western Front

I played Ostfront a tad to get a taster, after all, it was probably midnight. First impressions are good. The presentation is very good, graphics are slightly dated. I get a good vibe from the general feel of it. It's not a bunny hopping rushing game like Day of Defeat. Instead, it seems to be FPS multiplayer combat in open, realistic zones.

I would say it's somewhere between Day of Defeat and Operation Flashpoint.

Anyway, im off to play more...

Sounds good so far. Can you post a few screens perhaps? Just to get a feel of the quality of the graphics (and the 'standard' screens are usually glossed up a bit).

I'm having a lot of fun with the Darkest Hour mod, ie, western front maps such as Brecourt, Carentan, Foy and Ardennes. The Ardennes on especially is very fun cos the first objective is to dig in like a bitch and fight off the jerries and their PzIV / PzIII. You can get quite a few kills from your foxhole, especially if theres about 20 or so teammates spread along the line. It's too hard to hold for long though, so soon you'll find yourself displacing and repositioning like a crazy mofo.

Theres something about firing a Garand...

I think the Darkest Hour maps are exceptional. Ostfront and Nostrum maps as far as I can tell aren't so great.

Another great selling point for friends to play are the tank maps. You only really have effective tanks if you have friends that listen to each other and have mics.

Still for £3, it's hard for me not to recommend it to anyone.

I got the guest pass - will activate it later (not tonight seeing as I wasn't gonna play anymore anyway)! Thanks bromine!

O'cram told me that you cant download the mod with just a guest pass game. you need to own it, which means you'll miss out on darkest hour, which imho, is the pulp of the fun.

I'm free this friday, but ive got a wedding to go to this weekend, so wont have the physical coordination to switch on the PC.

Ah well, would have been fun all 3-4 of us clambering into a tank (me as commander on mic) and totally pwning.

I'm pretty sure the only outcome could have been either

- O'Cram saying 'screw this', opening the tank hatch, throwing a grenade down and sprinting away

or

- You commanding us straight into an anti-tank canal. "Hey what is this water guys?"

;) hehehe sorry man. But too bad. The price is back to 15€ so now I'm not too giddy about spending money on it anymore tbh (you got it at way less right? or was that imagination?).

Still interested how that works commanding a tank with 2-3 people tho, cause I see O'Cram bought the full game (partially for that reason I'm sure). :)

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. :( I still have that guest pass, but is it even worth using it if I can't play The Darkest Hour together with you guys?
