 The Sims 3 is out
I was at a friend's yesterday and he had just installed Sims 3. After some initial hounding from my part ("wtf man, sims? that's for girls!" etc.) I -of course- got dragged into it and started loving it. I think I saw him play/played it for an hour or two in total and I must say it was a complete blast.
The game is just so intuitive, so easy to get to handle, with so many options, customizable things, detail and the scope of the new neighbourhood thingie is pretty amazing. It looked pretty great.
Not saying I see myself spending 50 bucks on it any time soon, but I'm not ruling anything out either.
Apparently it sold 1.4 million copies in its first week too - so much for 'the PC is dead' eh.

Ox? Did you have any special surgeries in Malta? The kind where they remove your man-bits and replace them with cuddly, socializing bits?

lol. Man, I mean it, it's a lot more fun than you'd think. It's an amazingly well designed game for what it is.
Btw: Left 4 Sims

Satis, I don't think YOU of all people should give Ox shit about playing SIMS.
I still swear to this day you bought that sims game for me, so you could play it. Actually you were the only one to really play it if I recall. hmm. Care to retract that previous statement? Or shall I start looking for your man bit removal scars?

Shiny lies. I bought Sims for her. Of course I had to play test it to make sure it functioned properly. Yes.

Lmao. You hypocritical whore. I might acquire Sims this weekend, but I probably should get some productive work in too.

I own the original Sims too. I should make a games table like you Peltz, but I can't be arsed.

I've been playing some Sims lately (the little time I was at my pc that is) and well, it's still a ton of fun. I seem to be leaning towards the depraved though, not that it'll surprise you much.
My third 'incarnation' (ie firstborn son of the original me) embarked on a quest to impregnate as many women with as many children as possible during his lifetime. He had no job and was rich thanks to his father, so all he focused on EVER was meeting women and trying to have a baby with them.
Needless to say, things got a little out of hand. By the end of his life, he had 33 children of which only 3 with his actual wives. He had two children with his first wife, then knocked up her sister 5 (!) times behind her back and when the wife finally caught me and her sister fooling around I kicked her out, got a new wife and had two kids with her as well.
The children were ranging from young adult to infants when I died, and since there were 33 children from 7-9 different mothers pretty much the entire town is now related (towns aren't very big). My kids are now looking for potential girls or suitors, but 90% of the town is either a half-brother, sister, aunt or cousin and the game automatically makes it impossible for them to erhm, interact romantically. I guess they saw my sick plans coming at Maxxis.
Regardless, I foresee a LOT of people dying very lonely deaths in the near future. It doesn't help that all the men have my face either. Good stuff.

lol Ox welcome to the club. I actually was never a *huge* fan of sims, it being a game that I'll play for a week then get bored, then go back to it in 6 months but figured I'd get Sims 3 (not something I do lightly as I hate EA and only owned Sims 2 but still had all the expansion packs installed ) and don't regret it at all.
Btw just to add to the gayness thing, Mole is the one who got me into Sims

lol. Still not sure I'm happy I 'came out' about the Sims, but it's good to see I'm not the only gay guy on this forum.
What do your sims' lives look like then?
I'm actually getting slightly (just slightly) bored with the game now as I have maxed out several careers, skills, life wishes, 'bought' all the higher-echelon lifepoint rewards (moodlet manager - which is essential - , body sculptor, teleport pad etc) and have become extremely, extremely rich thanks to good career performance, investments in the town and a sister who produced about 15.000 simeleons a day thanks to her amazing painting skills (painting is still very unbalanced).
I used the 1.000.000 I had in cash and the 200.000 I had in furniture to build some sort of ridiculously awesome mansion, complete with a moat and frontside garden fountain. My ground floor is so huge that I can't really think of any rooms worth building on the second floor anymore. There's already 2 bathrooms, 4 spacey master bedrooms, a kids' room, a salon, a workout room, an entertainment room, an art gallery, an indoor pool and a state-of-the-art kitchen down there. And outside there's a 3-car garage.
So now I'm in the house and going...ok...so what now? Impregnating the rest of the town is too boring. Maybe I need to try some of the pre-set challenges the game features?

My sims lives... well I have a 'proper' family who are quite rich (decent house plus 50k in the bank) and 5 kids (2 teens, 3 children) but I've pretty much ignored them for a while. Husband is top of the Athletic career, wife is top of Medical.
But my new family is much more fun, far more of a challenge. It's something called the Legacy Challenge (check it out here. Basically you make life difficult for yourself at the start, then try to meet challenges to earn points through 10 generations of your family. I'm only on the second generation but it's more fun so far than being rich within the first in-game week.

Yes, I introduced you to the sims - but I played the sims one, and as 'flamboyant' as I got was the livin' it up expansion.
After that, sims 2 didn't apeal and I haven't touched 3.
Bunch of girls.
