Gamespot hands on with the game. Sounds fun but..

Quote:
Experience, cash rewards, and ammunition are automatically shared among the players in the group regardless of contribution, though currently, there's no loot system beyond a first-come-first-served dash for weapon drops. This free-for-all mentality also extends to rare weapon drops, so you'll want to be in the thick of the action (and close to the corpse) when the fighting stops to ensure you get your fair shot at the spoils. There's also currently no option to inspect the gear of other players in your party to help distribute the gear. We can see potential for dispute, especially when matchmaking online with strangers, but Gearbox assured us it's all part of the plan to help foster the intended value of the game's items and keep players coming back for one more boss.

Potential fun killer there, if playing online with complete strangers.

ugh, I hate loot gankers. Makes me not want to play with people I don't know and trust. One of the good things about Guild Wars was this was never a problem, even if I got an ice sword and Ox didn't.

God I remember that. :? Me and Satis were harvesting ice imps in the ice cave for the sword (rare drop) and Satis was killed pretty early due to a botched pull. Luckily, my build was strong enough to do the farming alone while Satis was dead and semi-afk. Of course, the ice sword drops and is assigned to (dead-ass) Satis. :? In the end the farming took so long that the sword was 'unassigned' and I could pick it up myself, but seeing as I was a nice guy I gave the bastard the sword anyway. :P

As or Borderlands...it's looking more and more promising imho. The loot stuff shouldn't be aproblem as long as you're playing with 3-4 people you know, which shouildn't be too hard if the game rocks hard. :) The only problem I see is the release date - right between Dragon Age and L4D2. Yeah, problematic.

Good hands-on at RPS too btw:

Say wha? They're marketing increased grinding as a FEATURE now? :? If I wanted to grind, I'd be playing WoW.

P.S. Shiny: this is probably way below your level of education and pay, but hey: http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/jobs/listing/61/ :)

Yea, that actually looked mildly interesting. I'd love it if it were in the same context as Hitman. God I loved Blood Money. I'd kill for another decent Hitman game. I don't even need a overarcing story line...just let me assassinate people.

Anyway, hopefully we'll have some decent games coming out after this rather long dry spy we've been having.

Hey Peltz, I'm too lazy so remind me: is borderlands about shooting AI stuff in Co-op? Like, with missions and shit? Or is it just team vs team or arena? Just wondering.

The video was ok but, well, just random shooting. :) Hard to tell anything from it.

Borderlandsâ„¢ sends up to four co-op players to the harsh frontier planet Pandora in search of a mysterious Alien Vault legend.

Well theres a party of 4 people fighting ai, levelling up and with a loot system that reminds the one from Diablo but still quite different.

Quote:
What are the classes?
Siren (Lilith): uses phasewalk and becomes invisible/invincible, moves fast
Berserker (Brick): loves to punch, huge and strong
Sniper (Mordecai): hangs back and lets high-caliber sniper rifles and pet bloodwing pick 'em off
Soldier (Roland): uses a turret and supports his fellows

Character customization? Skill Trees?
Each character class has three different skill trees that emphasize different playstyles within the class. Details regarding skill trees are not complete. We know Roland has a support tree that can create healing bullets, and that Brick has a tree that pumps up his melee damage. You'll be able to name your character as you choose, and customize visual appearance somewhat. You'll also be afforded a way to reinvest the points you've spent on talents.

Is there a level cap?
Yes, there will be a level cap. The level cap is 50.

What's a "badass?"
WoW has elites, Borderlands has badasses. These enemies will be tougher and will drop better loot than regular old enemies do.

What happens when I die?
When you die, you enter "Fight for your life!" You drop down and are unable to move, but are still able to fire shots for a time while your screen dims. If you deal a killing blow to an enemy in this state, you are returned to life with some of your shield and health restored. If you don't, you are returned to the last New-U station for a fee.

Does it Blend?
Well, yeah, I mean I guess it would. Probably.

As one example, he spoke about the potential genius of healing bullets. Neumann said that one of the most rewarding moments he's experienced while playing the game was scoring a critical headshot on one of his ailing teammates from a lengthy distance using a sniper rifle loaded with the medicinal ordnance.
