It's an indie game up for a 50% off pre-order on Steam.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/22200/

Basically a first person action game made with the source engine in some kind of weird fantasypunk universe. It looks supremely weird and won some "most anticipated" indie awards.

Have a look at the videos, I recommend the 'teaser' and the 'video' on steam. Basically the setting is a world where only one creature (the weird mother/father hermaphrodite being in the vids) 'spawns' humans, animals and fantasy and mixed beings who then unite themselves into groups and clans as they grow up.

All sounds interesting enough. And for 8 €/$ I'll probably pick it up...if I'm in time to get home to my credit card to buy it within the 24 hours offer. I'm afraid I might not be tho.

The developers have a comic online set in the game universe. Rather cool stuff, even if it's only 4 pages

Gave the demo a little try. Finished it (pretty short demo i think).

It was ... weird. Can't say i liked it, but i didn't really dislike it. There were some elements in the combat that reminded of Blade of Darkness: Severance.

But i won't be buying it. I'm neutral to negative to the game. Biggest no-go was no freedom to go where i wanted to go.

Yea, I tried the demo as well. It wasn't bad, by any means, but it seems to be more along the lines of Tekken or street fighter or something... fight to fight with an incidental story. That story is pretty bizarre, but hey. Anyway, it's not my style. Perhaps more of a sandbox-type game would be more to my liking. The combat mechanics weren't bad, though I could see myself become annoyed with them if they got too repetitive.

What does the demo show you exactly? Because I only played the full game.

Yeah, a large part of the game is the fighting with various groups of enemies, but there really is quite enough variation throughout the game to keep it interesting. The melee battles with your siblings are just a part of the game, if a major one. I won't spoil things too much but there are 3-4 very different areas (one of them I liked VERY much) that feature a quite different style of play involving sharpshooting, dodging and other stuff.

I won't deny the linearity. But the game is short-ish at 3 hours (still not as short as many AAA titles of 50e in comparison tho) and because of that it doesn't overstay its welcome with the melee system, the crazy world, wonderful character design and intriguing story (it's actually more of a step-up to a greater story, but quite interesting on its own).

Might post some screens later. :) If it ever is down at 5-7€ again, it's worth the purchase. I wouldn't buy it at 15e either, but that's mostly because I'm a cheap bastard. :P
