 Steam holiday sales (wow)
Just when I thought I'd never buy anything off steam anymore, they hit with these insane sales:

Peltz, I saw you bought the X-com series on steam for 5 euros. I wanted to do the same...but only realized it yesterday evening (end of the weekend) and couldn't find anyone with a credit card awake and/or online to buy it for me. (i'd repay it, obviously)
I should get me a proper credit card.

Heh, it appeared in steam because you're on my friends list. Peltz bought X-com etc.
It's still up? I might buy it still when i get home then.
On another note...why don't we create a clankiller steam group? I was going to do it yesterday evening but then figured that perhaps it was more of a thing Satis should do...with him being the owner of the registered trademark Clankiller and all
But if he's too lazy then whatever, I'll do it

The xcom series is on there? Shit, I'd buy that.
How do you create a group? Is it in the community tab? I don't have Steam installed here (at work) obviously... I'll see what I can do.

No steam at work? You're not hardcore!! jk obviously
Missed the X-com sales. It's back to 15 € now, which is a bit rich.
You can easily create a steam group by fiddling around a bit on your steam page. I can't recall how it is here at work (no steam either) but if I saw it at home I could tell you. But you'd figure it out in 5 seconds too, so I won't even bother.

damn... $5 is worth it for all the xcom games... $15 is not. I assume it's still a 1:1 ratio for dollars to euros, at least on steam. Too bad. My disk of Apocalypse is pretty worn and I've totally lost the original xcom disk.

welp, I looked it up, $15 alright. I'm looking at the original xcom...it says it supports multiplayer and cooperative modes. I had no idea. Hell, the only multiplayer I played in 1993 was Doom and that was 1v1 over a dialup modem.
Can you really coop the campaign?

it turns out, nope:
http://yarrninja.wordpress.com/2008/09/ ... punks-you/
Look out with Steam descriptions. It doesn't list RA3 as a co-op game, for example, which it most definitely is.
Meh. I still want to play X-com. But not for 15 big ones (and yeah, it's still €=$ on steam). Think I might still find a nice and old Pentium 90 with 64mb of ram and a dos/windows 98 SE install anywhere? Maybe not such a bad investment. sure as hell can't game Dos-based games properly on Vista.

Personally, I'd just build another machine myself, typically out of left over parts. I've got most of a machine sitting in an anti-static bag right now. However, if you like purchasing, you can check out dell auctions.

Some pretty decent deals on hardware.
