I was in two such teams already. The main problem was always the money. One example: even when we had a demo (like a hour of playing), the hard asses from USA offered us like $700 for owning its complete source and other data. This 700 bucks had as well to cover finishing the whole project. Well, everything fell apart before I persuaded the main programmer and the people to look for other sponsors or whatever. I myself already have an "usable" OpenGL engine written from scratch. At least I could simulate whole IE inside if I had someone to draw maps, do voice stuff and art, but why not doing 3D as well, eh? Meh... no time. And anyway, since I consider switching to Linux, I'll probably see what SDL has in the store. |

y'know, Linux gaming is actually a promising market. There basically is no Linux gaming...certainly none of the big projects from Windows ever get ported over. Mac may get it (eventually) but never linux. I'm willing to bet if you built some good commercial games you could make a killing. And speed the FOSS movement up in the process. |

Actually, I've heard people play windows games in an emulated environment on Linux. Now it's even not so lossy in performances. About specs I can't speak. At least, I don't believe all goodies of DX10 are accessible yet. ![]() |

Wine doesn't do DX10 yet, but there are still few DX10 only games, the system doesn't have enough market share for that. There are a few decent open-source games out there, but nothing on par with any big Windows games (not that I care, I can't play newer games anyway, and don't care enough about today's games to make me buy a new computer). By the way, OpenGL 3.0 is supposed to be released in the near future. |
