Ok so we have Xbox360 topic, so why not PS3.
Why would anyone want to install Linux on their PS3? EDIT: Ok its confirmed now that 95% of the Gamespot comments and their respectful owners are actually indeed idiots, if you look up the word idiot in a dictionary you will see a "gamespot commenter" link there. |

Becaise the PS3 is heavily over priced for the market it's aimed at, and offers not enough more than the 360 to warrant a purchase. About the 'best' thing it's got is BlueRay, and even that, if they can fit Oblivion on to a DVD, isn't needed. |

I think i read on gamespot about the first game that will require two dvd9 and for PS3 one blueray will suffice. Oh and please no fanboy stuff, lets keep it simple and clean. |

Fanboy or not, the PS3 IS horribly overpriced. Not as bad now there's a pricedrop (though there wasn't in Europe, still £425, you just get extra controller + 2 games with that) Through testing the games and machines traded in (about 8 traded in since march, compare that with 3 wiis traded in since december) the graphics are nothing special (though its within its first year so I'll let them off), the online is apparently terrible (though free!) and we've had quite a few traded in to get ps2s and 360s back. Once the Elite is out then the PS3 will have NO advantage whatsoever unless Bluray takes off instead of HDDVD. It's even lost most of its exclusive games. I find it horribly hard to sell PS3s, whereas everything else (except PSPs) will generally just sell no problem if someone comes in looking for one. A lot of people come in thinking to buy a PS3 and leave with something else/nothing. BTW coulda told you before Gamespot are idiots ![]() |

There is nothing fanboy about what I said - it's all true based on a solid judgement. The PS3's main three advantages over the Xbox 360 are so. The PS3 has blueray The PS3 has built in WiFi The PS3 can do more at once than the 360, but not necessarily better graphics. As with all hardware, it's about tweaking though and the PS3 is new(ish) so I expect the graphics to improve a lot. Bigger HDD (60gb) Now, the 360 at launch cost you £280. The PS3 at launch cost you £425 In the market it's aimed at (the general homes of the UK) you simply can't charge that price and expect it to sell, when it doesn't really offer THAT much more than the 360. And this has been reflected. Sony are failing time after time here. Pevil informs me that sony have put the non-selling PSP up in price to maximise profit when they make a sale. Surely, putting it down in price is a better idea? Get more units out there. The PS3 needs to do the same. I have no doubt, yes, that's zero doubt, that the PS3 is a fantastic machine. But if sony want me to buy it, they have to charge a reasonable price for what is ultimately a home games console. Blueray players aren't cheap to buy. But they also aren't a common houehold item right now. Sony have made one good marketing ploy, buy including blue ray, they've gotten blue ray players in to hundreds of thousands of homes in the UK. But do you need blue ray? Really? It's just bad marketing overall. The Xbox 360 started at £210. You could buy a basic unit. Sony, didn't release their basic unit over here, once again the spit on the European market. Anyway, as I was saying. The Xbox starts cheap. If you want more - you have to buy more. This makes it what is known as "affordable", similar to putting things on your credit card. You pay for it over time. What does this do? This brings in a lot more money for microsoft, increases the sales and makes sure that more people have a 360 in their house. Look at the Wii - it's the cheapest of the lot, has the worst graphics and a fairly poor game range (though it has some REAL gems) and wait a min. It's outsold all of the big competitors. If I'm right, the only thing that outsold it is the DS - oh wait, another cheaper model smashing the daylights out of Sony's more expensive yet technically better equipment. That's not fanboyism, that's solid evidence that I'm using to make my judgment against buying and following this machine. When the price comes down to less than £300, I might be interested. It'd help if they had a decent launch portfolio too. But they didn't. All the 'PS3 exclusives' are falling through. Oh well. |

Lol, the above post is exactly what i wanted to avoid. Although you declare it as solid evidence, I dont care. The topic is not about console war, who is better and who is not. The topic idea was to list games worth checking, interesting technological twists and stuff like that. I guess the above post was just letting off some of that steam gathered reading ps3 vs xbox360. Again lets keep such things out of this topic, just type 360vsps3 in google and you get more than enough. Remember, i play games, not the properties of a console. |

Nah Resistance isn't worth getting a PS3 for, it plays and looks like CoD2, get a ps2 or xbox. Motorstorm is a cool game, its actually fun and feels a bit different, though tbh it feels like a Wii game. Other than that there's only Untold Legends: Dark Kingdoms and Genji that are out on the PS3 and nothing else. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to test those yet. |

The Warner deal was the last kick in the gut for the HD DVD. Although this can infact bite them in the ass. Blu Ray is ridiculously expensive at the moment. And the afore mentioned news was really bad for HD DVD, so the prices should come crumbing down, i mean really hit rock bottom. So there might be some other industry interested in this format coz it is cheap now and it is almost as good as Blu Ray. I really hope they didnt totally kill it. Because this data carrier didnt live its natural evolution, Its death was bought and paid for by Sony. Edit: The porn industry perhaps? |

You can buy HD-DVD players on ebay right now for as little as like $35. And movies cheap too. If you're interested now's the time since everyone's clearing their inventory. I think it's over for HD-DVD. It's just a matter of time before it fades into obscurity. |
