Seed failed too...it's a rough time to release a MMORPG. Everyone wants a piece of the cake but the market is in the hands of a handful of games, the inevitable WoW being the biggest of course. You can't magically make more MMORPG players so you'd need to lure them away from other MMORPG's...and because players tend to build social networks and 'status' in MMORPG's they don't leave them just like that. In most non-MMORPG games, players happily go from one game to another in a matter of weeks...funny eh. Either you are a super-duper gaming powerhouse with 1337 marketing skillz (EA, Valve) or you strike lucky with a golden idea...you're not gonna cut it any other way. Oh, and I think monthly subscription fees will slowly disappear from the genre. |

it'll probably go to in-game commercials. And the installer will be free...no more $50 purchase. That's one of the biggest barriers to people trying out new MMOs. |

You think? I think the initial purchase fee doesn't really trouble most people, because it's exactly the same as with any other game. Assuming they've bought and played games before. Maybe you mean that they're unsure if the game will bomb or not a few months going because of a lack of players/funds? And therefore losing the bang for their buck? (cos in MMORPG's: no upkeep, no players, no game) |

meh, honestly, if all there was to playing an MMO was me shelling out $15 for a month, I'd probably try alot more. The way it is, though, it's basically shell out $50, plus give away my credit card info and basically spend another $15 for a month (despite the "first month free" crap they advertise). $65 for a game I might not like isn't very encouraging. Plus the quality of some MMOs is SO bad that I would feel totally pwnt. So, yea....$15 for crap I can deal with....$65 I can't. |

On the MMORPG topic: any free MMORPGs or trails you can recommend? |

Shadowbane is 100% free. If you can come to terms with the outdated graphics engine. |

J, maybe you could check out the D&D online trial? Satis and Shiny liked it for a while, until their free trial ran out I think. ![]() http://trial.ddo.com/ You can score a free trial to World of Warcraft in various promotions, like the one I found on fileplanet https://login.blizzard.fileplanet.com/l ... f_key.aspx Just use a spam address to score a trial key. Guild Wars, the game most of us here are on (although I'm the only one who actually is on a lot lately) doesn't really throw around free trials. I got one with the purchase of my graphics card, but that was a year ago. In any case, it's different from the others in that it doesn't have a monthly fee. Just a one-time payment. It's also not as much a MMORPG as the other, more an online M(ass)ORPG ![]() ![]() |
