Crytek's (of FarCry fame) next game has been recently announced, but I can't find much on the web in terms of goodies. :( Anyway, the game's gonna be on an island again, and it'll involve a whole lot of graphical neatness.

The plot is centered around a 'meteor' mysteriously crashing softly on an island in ocean, controlled by North Korea. At first you'll play as an American commando fighting the Nort Koreans, but the second part of the game will feature the 'meteor' opening and aliens starting a sort of freeze process: they will gradually start to put the entire island under a coat of ice -which will no doubt make for some spectacular shots. You'll also see the "freeze process" going on as you walk around on the island, it doesn't just happen overnight or something. Icey stuff that gets hit will shatter and shit, the makers call the second part of the game "shatter combat".

In this part yu team up with the North Koreans against the common enemy, working your way towards the alien meteor/ship. You'll not meet any aliens before the last hour of the game, but according to Crytek they've put a WHOLE lot of effort in that last hour, becuase they wanted it to be the climax of the entire game. You will, however, pick up alien weaponry and meet machines before that.

Anyway, I don't have enough time to mention all the other cool stuff that was in the perview and interview. I'll try to find pics online and scan some in later on...suffice to say I think it looks/sounds really great, and Crytek has proven it can make amazing graphics with reasonably sys reqs...

Oh, you will be able to save anywhere you want this time around. :)

You'll definitely recognize the Cryengine, but shit, it looks good. Especially the short part of jungle combat. When this comes out, our pc's will be crawling. :roll:

But Farcry was playable on lesser machines too without too much loss of visual prettiness, so..

Well, it works quite well if you let >= instead of > there. Beside that it works for you too pal. ;)

If companies are trying to make games seem more real, they need to dull down the colors. Real life is not so colorful and bright.

Lower the light for 5% and desaturate if the colors does not do it for you.

Plus for anyone that remembers, Far Cry shipped with different renderers. By default it was all bright and cheery, but you could make it dull and drab too, plus several other neat effects.

Far Cry was every graphics whore's dream. :) You could tell that the game actually started out as 'just' a rendering program.
