Here's the Gamespot review. 8.0
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/quake4/review.html

He saying SP is fun but MP is just like Q3 only with better graphics. And thats a bad thing? :)

Im getting this for my birthday (31st). Ill tell ya how it is.

From watching the video the game seems alot more action packed than doom. And yes, the MP is almost EXACTLY like q3.

That's the general feeling in most reviews I've read:

Awesome graphics, awesome MP action, but nothing new under the sun.

Also, remarks about the rather poor outlining of outdoors levels, 'thanks' to the Doom³ engine. Other remarks too like the 'vaporizing' of dead bodies (framerate reasons of course) which was explicable in Doom (minions called back to hell), but is just kinda ridiculous in Quake IV.

Anyhoo, have fun with the MP. Quake whores. :P ;)

bodies vaporized in q3 also...sorta. Either they exploded into bloody goop and were gone almost immediately, or they kinda disappeared over a couple seconds.

IMO, not a big deal.

I don't think it's a big deal, but you know, I prefer to leave a host of bodies in my wake. But then, not a lot of games that allow you to do that. It's just an unelegant solution, imo.

I've seen QIV in action in the meantime and talked a bit with a mate about it, and guess what? No Stroggification. Well, there is, but it doesn't change the game jack-all. Instead of giving you cool strogg machine upgrades you're just a really ugly marine. yay. :?

For me bodies are best bit.

I spent hours on Hidden & Dangerous 2 and Hitman 2 re-arranging the bodies on the ground.

And i also liked capping mercenaries in Far Cry.

We have no time to do anything like this... we have way too few mappers as it is... good mappers are extremely hard to find (like everything else.)

Good stock CTF maps do not make good WF maps (because of the grapple/flight/items/powerups) so we'd be wasting our time as far as actual mod progress was concerned.

hehe....I will map for Q4 and WFR. It WILL happen.

Of course, I never got to the point of being a 'good' mapper, but that's ok. I'll 1337 pwn you all!

Ok, I got q4 installed and .....it rules.

First off, my video card sucks balls so I stopped playing because I get my new one tommorrow.

Second, SP is good. LOTS of action and gore at the very beginning. Sometimes your alone sometimes you have a squad or guy fighting next to you. NPC's medics will heal you. Good intro. Doesnt feel as clunky as doom3 did to me.

MP...Satis and Pig you would love the MP. I mean its q3 with new graphics. Bunny hop is still there, weapons are pretty much the same, same sounds, same announcer that tells you "QUAD DAMAGE". Very fast paced action. I was surprised MP was that fast. To me the action is faster than doom3 mp.

I had to stop playing because I was getting FPS lag owned.

If your a Quake fan this is a must have. If your not this should be your first.

More later

I'll probably play it somewhere down the line, but don't have the time/means to do so now. I'll probably stay away from MP tho. :)

Well I downloaded the Demo today (or yesterday, midnight was 15 minutes ago) and I was kinda disapointed. With DOOM 3, I felt the game was very in keeping with it's predeccesors (spl?) and overall a nice addition to the series, though not an excellent one. With Q4, I'm gunna reserver my true judgement till I play the full game through, But initial impressions are that it is a chunkier version of FEAR, with less intuitive combat (though, they are demonspawns, so that is OK) The lack of the lean around corner feature leaves me feeling like I've lost the extra limb given to me in fear.

I haven't played MP, but will do at some point. I just think the game has lost it's quakeyness.

But hey, Reserved judgement, as I said.

Played the demo. Felt totally un-inspired throughout. It just feels like a Doom3 wannabe.

Read it again, sorry If my grammar is teh suckz0r. I meant, In FEAR, you had the ability to lean around corners. This quake no longer _feels_ like Quake, it feels like FEAR, with all the bits that made it awesome, missing. In FEAR, you could lean around corners, to sneak a peak at whats there or fire off you machine gun in to the back of an unsuspecting merc. In Quake 4, you can't, and it makes the game feel less free.

Quake 4 isn't FEAR, that's for sure. It doesn't have any ground-breaking game mechanics or anything. But the graphics are great, and it's a decent shooter. You may have to slog through the first bit, but don't worry, you get that high-speed feeling a bit into it. The boss fights can be amazing...some of the shit you kill is just mind boggling.

Anyway, I don't think it's fair to compare it to FEAR...different type of FPS. Ditto for Q3....Q3 was MP only (even SP was just MP with all bots), and probably matches Q4 really well in the MP department. I never played Q2, so I can't really comment there.

Anyway, still haven't mapped for it. I've been caught between being lazy and working my ass off for my college classes.

I can compare what I want to what I want :P

The reason I compare it to fear, is it feels like I should be playing fear at first. Then I realise that it's more confined, and I feel stunted.

I've been fragging away in the MP on the Demo, or mostly being fragged. A lot of people complaining that cheats have already ruined the game. I found it hard to kill unless I had the best weap (much like Q3 ;) ) but I wasn't even aware of these cheats.
