AI also gets the wrong people killed. I'd only use my artillery people if all else fails, but the computer just gets them killed. Often retraining artillery in newly conquered cities is impossible, so I'd just get delays.

yea, good point on the artillery. My artillery practically never takes casualties, unless I'm really heavily outmatched. AI tends to kill off generals too. :p Especially if you have more than one general unit in an army.
Then again, having entire army stacks made up of useless relatives can be fun in its own right.

I actually stopped using my generals in combat, they were there just to help recovering casualties, i found that very experienced soldiers are by far more useful than a general because he will die off sooner or later. Archers with golden shields and swords plus 3L of experience are godlike compared to their untrained peers. (shields & swords here meaning level of their equipment)

Haha, I love the collection of war stories here.
In RTW: BI I dramatically downsized the Western Roman Empire from the get-go, throwing cities into rebel hands and getting rid of decadent and incompetent family members. How? By rounding them up in one huge army of bodyguards and have it sweep through enemy lands on a suicide mission, looting and pillaging and trying to get them killed.
They cost quite a lot in upkeep and you can't disband them like other units...so killing them off was pretty much required for a healthy economic start.
I don't think history would have looked kindly upon my actions as an emperor if I got to rule back then.

The plebes would have probably loved you for it ... I think soon enough some aristocrat would have assasinated you.

And the plebs don't write history books, either.

That's right but I'm sure they'd be happy to knock up a few timeless epic public works. Often they do the same job as books. Like an enourmous pyramid with RINOX down the side.

pyramids only ever get built by slaves. I think the most he could realistically hope for is a statue and a street named after him.

Mad fight, i ended up killing 2100 enemy men, while taking casualties of 200 tops, instant heroic.

yea, me too actually. I've been watching it for awhile. Did a bit of research... looks like no Securom for it, but it'll require Steam or something. Whatever... Steam's not a great thing, imo, but it's better than Securom.
I'm still eagerly awaiting WWIII: Total War.

Too long. I really really had to force myself at times. Anyway i think im taxed out on the TW at the moment so i am not going to buy Empire yet. I was thinking of preordering Drakensang. that demo link someone posted here a while back left me with an itch for more. Theres just something about DnD, its so right for me.
