/me waits til Satis starts ranting about FC2

Apparently the release was pushed forward from the 24th to the 23rd here. Not that a day is going to make that much of a difference but still, neato.

EDIT:

Myeah, at least you're not giving EA your money. Small comfort. :( i'll buy it, because I want to push my system. If it was released after Fallout 3 I might not have bothered to pay for it.

ugh, defective by design. DRM pisses me off to no end.

No surprise that none of the stores around here had FC2 in stock on release day. Stupid crap. It's difficult to be a hardcore gamer... there should be long release lines for games just like there are for crap like stupid cell phones.

/me fumes

Weird dude, and pretty damn lame. :/ How many stores did you check exactly?

I agree though, I don't understand why there isn't more of a 'buzz' surrounding game releases. Shit, the gaming industry is bigger than the movie industry! And there are DEFINITELY more hardcore gamers than there are lame-ass Iphone users. And yet only a game like GTA4 seems to warrant midnight customer gaming buying madness on its release.

(and Halo, but that's only because the poor console kids don't realize that it's poor compared to PC shooters where the real action's at  god bless them)

heh...poor console kids. :p

I physically checked 4 stores and used the web to check a 5th. I consider that to be pretty thorough.

Oh well, one of the stores had it this morning so I picked it up. Of course, the activation servers crashed, so now I can't activate the game. Have I mentioned how much I hate DRM? If there were a crack available, I'd just crack the bitch.

In fact, if it's still down this afternoon when I get home from work, I'll be finding a crack or creating my own, goddamnit.

ok, the authentication server came up maybe 30 minutes later and I was able to start playing the game. It's pretty, though I haven't gotten very far yet. I chose to start the game as the naturalized Israeli guy that was born in Hungary... I forget his name already. :p I'm looking forward to replaying this game as someone else later.

Yeah, Satis is a whore :P

There are two possible reasons why he didn't post anything else about the game yet:

1) it's awesome
2) it sucks so bad that he's become so jaded with life that he refuses to make the effort to post about how bad it is

;)

Just 2 more hours and off to the stores here

heh...it's pretty damned good. Some screenies.

btw, I'm playing at 1680x1050 with most settings maxed (no AA though) and I'm having no performance issues at all. The screenshots are reduced to 80% of their original size.

Satis, somehow your post sparked an idea in me, im going to try and complete the game without actually killing anyone (probably the main bad guy has to go but when he does itll be something spectacular).

The graphics are pretty impressive. So far I've run into two terrain types.... jungle and open savanna. The savanna is much prettier, though obviously pretty heavy on the burnt orange color. The size of the area is quite large, as well... vehicles are pretty much required to get around. However, you can go everywhere... the rocky ridges and such aren't scalable, you have to walk around them. It'd be nice if you could climb them.

The first person perspective thing is pretty cool. You never jump out of your body... any time you do any action it's from first person, from opening doors (you look at the door handle and watch your hand turn it, etc), to switching to the gunner position in the jeep and back, to pulling pullets out of your body. Jumping off of stuff makes you whole view movie realistically and your weapons clank and stuff... it seems like a small thing but it's pretty well done.

Some negatives.... in the tutorial it went over how to zoom in and out of your map... I forgot, of course... information overload. But now I don't know how to do it... it's not in the key bindings or in the manual that I can find. I already mentioned the limitations on climbing. It's also amazing how much you can fix with a socket wrench... your vehicle can be smoking from having been pummeled with bullets and you can fix it by popping the hood and tightening a spark plug.

Anyway, it's a good game so far. Definitely no regrets so far, even though securom sucks my ass.

*pops in from playing FC2 and having fun*

It's R, ya ho! Kinda weird that they'd use the reload button to zoom in the map screen but meh.
