I'll agree, but the first modern warfare was a pretty decent PC game. A few rough edges (like holding out in Pripyat as a sniper waiting for the helicopter... omgwtfbbq) but still pretty fun. Either this will be better, or worse... if it's worse, fuckit, I'll stop buying them.

Well, following the outrage over their decision, IW has been making some intellectually dishonest excuses like 'it prevents cheating and piracy' (because closed servers never have any hackers and cheater of course) and "we’re just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners… we thought maybe it would be cool if the fans could play the game." What a crock of bull. Modders are the life and blood of a community and a game's lasting appeal. you're not streamlining shit, you just can't be bothered with investing money in something you don't really care about with 4454 bazillion people that will buy your game regardless.
And oh yeah, another thing that comes with no dedicated servers: no community control over players being complete pricks. Check these (disgusting) vids out.

yeah, those are the kind of people you really want to spend your time chilling with in a game.
/end rant. Lunch time!

neither of those vids will play for me. /me shrugs Whatever, I get the idea. To be honest, I'm not much of a multiplayer guy for competitive games like that. I don't like being killed over and over again, not without instant respawns at least. I prefer single player or coop play over competitive mp.
Still, I hear you. There are a huge number of total bastards that play online games.

Lol, I'm one of 'em!
I'm looking forward to MWII now even more than before. Lets just say I had early access to the game
Can not WAIT for launch day! (Even though I'm working the midnight shift)

As long as you're playing it on a console I won't have to pull out my MW2 dedicated server boycott rage out. Have fun!

This game will need to wait for awhile due to all the great games coming out, but I'll probably get it. The multiplayer component is of minor importance to me. As long as the single-player is solid, I'll be happy.

I played the first 3 levels - it's awesome. But apparently on normal difficulty it's 6hrs long.

Full (actually, more than full price) price for a game that lasts 6 hours on normal difficulty - so for a gamer like us that's actually 4.5 hours - is just insanity. It's like buying 2-3 films that cost 20 quid each. Nobody does that (who isn't a rich).

I won't be buying it for a ton of money. If it's too much for me, I'll wait until the price goes down. I like first person shooters, but this game doesn't get me THAT much. We'll see.

Hehehe...well it sure does seem like they're trying real hard to strip it of any remaining PC-minded qualities.
I think my initial semi-rage is now proven right, in that they never had any intention other than building a console game and porting it to the PC without many changes. Let's jsut hope it doesn't spread to other games.
But yeah, if you're just in for SP (especially now MP has been majorly gimped) it's probably not much of a bother. Thing is though, I don't play CoD in MP either. It's just the principle of the thing. But meh.

no, I agree, and if it really is $10 more expensive than other games, for a game that lasts 6 hours and has a gimped multiplayer... meh... I don't think it's really worth it. I'll hold off on it.

I wanted to buy this game until I read an article about the lack of dedicated servers. What a joke.

As far as the price goes I've been warning people since that was first announced. It was as far back as May when it was published in our retail magazine; excuses from Activision are that it's taken a huge budget to make the game plus the recession is hitting them hard. Of course usually us retailers would ignore it but we might not be able to. Whether they still will or not, I don't know, but Activision had said they would refuse to supply it to anyone who cuts a price.
Now that's all well and good for supermarkets who only ever get 20 copies on day one anyway, sell them at half price then ignore the fact it exists, but someone like us? Game, with our 600+ retail stores that ONLY make profit on games, not on bread and tvs? We'd go from ridiculously profitable to bankrupt overnight with no modern warfare being supplied! So we won't have a choice probably.
Still, hasn't stopped us getting over 500 preorders cross-platform, and we're a relatively quiet store.
Oh, also on money issues, was reading something in our retail mag the other day about predictions on how much MW2 is gonna make. Apparently GTA IV made £40 million on day one of release, making it the biggest ever entertainment release, including songs and films. Now they have gathered up preorder information and set a rough price of £40 for MW2 and worked out that if everyone who preordered bought it for that price on day one, CoD would easily get £64 million. And of course it's gonna be more expensive than that plus even more have been preordered since those figures were released. I preordered 12 copies myself on saturday in 5 hours, and there were 5 more staff members on besides me.
Tbh I've always considered CoD to be a rip off as far as single player goes. At least since Modern Warfare. But that's true of 99% of games, hence I only play RPGs really. But I've never played a single SP CoD, only MP for me on that game.
