Shit man, Bioshock is GOOD. And Big Daddies are tough mofo's. But I think I'm getting to the stage where I have access to enough toys to keep them off (armor piercing ammo and good plasmids).
Surprisingly, I'm being 'kind' to the little sisters. Something in this game makes it rather hard to, you know, kill them.
And there' something sinister about that Atlas dude. Dunno why.
The plasmids are net and all, but I can't say I'm using them too much except for the basic lighting one. I'm guessing that'll change as the game progresses.
The little sisters are still somewhat puzzling. I mean, killing them for their plasmid is one option, right. Then there's killing the big daddy and "saving them" (if that, in fact, IS what I am doing). But can I just leave them wandering around? They don't care about you being there as long as you don't get too close, right? But I guess that cuts me off ALL abilty to buy new plasmids. Mm.

lol, you'll see. The game works itself out in the end.
The plasmids are very helpful... at least, some of them are. Some are virtually pointless. As you progress in the game I think you'll come to appreciate the plasmids more.

Well, I finished it, and I can say right here and now that it's one of the best games I've ever played. I already suspected something was 'off' about Atlas, but you gathered that much. But I didn't really expect what I learned about my erhm, upbringing. But looking back at what happened in the game and what Ryan (among others) told me, it all makes sense.
As you said Satis, some plasmids become ultra useful (fire burst lvl3 ftw), others just plain start to suck (telekinesis? wtf?).
This game had a few moments that blew me away. One was during the completing of the artist's (Sander Cohen) masterpiece, where you get to fight a horde of his splicers in the dark with a spotlight following you, with a waltz playing. Magic.
Then there's the final meeting with Jack Ryan and his 'suicide'...a man chooses, a slave obeys. Since I saved ALL the little sisters in the game I got one of the three possible endings (apparently), and I must say I really liked it. It was heartwarming, even. Did you guys save them all? Or see the ending?
I'm hard-pressed to find a fault with this game. The design is off the scale, the atmosphere confined and brilliant, the enemies dangerous but just right in terms of difficulty, the skills varied, the voice acting and story of a high level...not to mention the graphics and their smoothness. It doesn't even suffer from the shortness syndrome of so many recent games.
Perhaps, if I had to name something, its ending leaves a few questions open (how did I un-Big Daddy? What happened to Tenenbaum? Why didn't I go nutso with all the plasmids I was sucking up?) that could use an answer. But that's really nitpicking.
Bioshock, I adore thee.
On to the next game...not sure what yet. Maybe Supreme Commander, or RA3. And I still need to pick up Mass Effect, The Witcher and Left 4 Dead. Choices, choices...

Play something crap because its not good to play two epics in a row. Next choice should be RA3 or something in that direction.

Yea, I never played RA3, but supreme commander is some decent fluff too. A good game, but nothing epic like Bioshock.
And bioshock did have some issues, but I think it's mostly nit-picking.

Hehehe, well you guys probably do have a point about not moving to another classic just yet, lest I be stuck with nothing but games who look "kinda good" in comparison once I finish the hottest games.
Calling RA3 "crap" is a bit harsh, tho. It's still a highly polished game in a fun franchise...I know you guys are into more "realistic" RTS games but the way I see it, you have to take RA3 for what it is: a game that doesn't take itself seriously in any way. Crazy units, hilarious super weapons, campy FMV acting jobs...what's not to love?
The main reason why I bought RA3 (apart from having a voucher and it being on the list ) is actually because its campaign is played in Co-op, either with the AI or a friend or a random internet dude. Now, say what you want, but that's a cool idea. I'm looking forward to teaming up with a pal and running through the campaign together.
I just ordered Mass Effect online. It's about time I let Bioware take me over again.
(If budget allows, I'll buy Left 4 dead soon...in time to kick some ass with J and Satis and Shiny )

I didn't k now RA3 was a coop game. Shiny and I are always looking for Coop games to play together. We may need to check that out once we finish CoD: World at War.

For some reason there hasn't been too much attention for it, so I don't blame you. I think this is the first time a high-profile RTS features a co-op formula as the core of the game, so I would have expected more fuss about it.
Check this, talks about co-op in RA3. Apparently you share line of sight and can even build in each other's bases when necessary. And you share resources. I hope one of you isn't planning on getting wasted and pissing off the other

Cool. Shiny and I will finish up CoD and Army of 2 first...that and figure in our left4dead gaming. We'll see how things go.

Currently playing Supreme Commander...stll getting used to it. You weren't wrong tho Satis, this game is ALL about mass rushing. Defense systems are so powerful compared to your average ground units; you just need tons of tanks to break through.
I like the water/amphibian aspect of the game so far most. Really well done. But the maps feel a little...uninspired, and 70% of the units just seems to be pointless.
Still, not a bad game. And I can't wait for the superweapons.

Finished Supreme Commandor with one of the factions (Cybrans).
It got/gets progressively more awesome as you get to the higher tech levels...at first I was a little let down (as noted above) but then I got into it. I took some adjusting to the whole "every mission is actually 3-4 missions" concept too...some missions last over 3 hours and that's when playing fast.
The first part of the game is just tank rushes - nuff said. But then the naval units got more spotlight, and you could build the higher-tech base defenses, shields, buildings that zap incoming projectiles out of the air and so on...hawt.
When I saw one of my destroyers WALK out of the sea to continue the assault on land, I nearly wet myself. Only 'gripe' I have at the end of the Cybran campaign is that I didn't get to build a super-duper-mega-huge unit. I had the enemy use them to attack my base, but I couldn't build one myself. Wtf?

Got ME in the mail today and installed it (including the DLC, sky is raining or some such?) . Created a character, Jean-Luc Shepard, with 'colonist' and 'ruthless' as background. He looks like Captain Picard gone terribly wrong and ugly.
I didn't play much, because I was short on time. Fragged a few enemies on Eden Prime before I quit to windows. Overall first impression: Stylish and epic, with quality music and a cinematic feel. Bioware, in short.
Might take Peltz' advice and divide my time between ME and 'lesser' games instead of just raging through it.

On Supreme Commander: You didn't get to build epic units in the final level? You should've been able to build some spiders and stuff. Be sure to play the other campaigns as well... all the factions play a bit differently. The Aeons are pretty fun...their UFO is pretty awesome. Also, did you get the expansion? Lots more time to play with advanced units in that one... it's like the latter 3 missions of the game the whole way through.
Regarding Mass Effect, take my advice, stay away from the side missions and exploring planets for ore or whatever. You will get bored to death. Feel free to do one or two, but they're ALL that way.
