nice...I haven't played it much (at all), but I figure I can load it on my laptop to entertain myself when I go to new jersey. :p Nuking people in Jersey...it just seems appropriate for some reason.

hehe...you sparked my interest, so I decided to give it another go. I played europe against north america. And I actually won!
I set myself up with two fleets in defense and most of my silos concentrated on the western side of the continent but near my cities. I had two fleets (on top of each other) as defense, then two fleets of pure subs I moved up near the east coast.
Initially I just blasted away with my two offensive fleets, while my defensive fleets took care of aggressive subs. That actually lasted into defcon 1. I sent a few testing nukes out of my subs, and eventually he committed to full nuclear assault. I beat that off with minimal losses (20-30million people), putting me in the hole. Their defense were pretty tough...few of my missiles got through and all my subs that launched got destroyed.
I kinda slowly used up my sub nukes until the final mission bell thing happened (the last hour or so of attack). I had a few ICBM launches too, but nothing major. When the end mission warning popped, I just went all out...launched all my bombers (what remained of em), launched all my sub nukes and all my icbns. Total annihilation. Well, I won at least. I killed 52million people and lost 43million. A victory for the One State World of Satis!
The final assault!

Well done. The kill ratio might not be much better than your opponent's, but you did much better than him on the whole (less casualties etc) so you actually won by a pretty big margin.
I love how the game is very simple to get into (I mean, set up your structures and units, then fire) but is way more complex than it looks. You have to really seize the moment to strike back, and have to be able to keep your head cool under pressure (when a pair of subs suddenly surfaces at your coastline with all your silos in ICBM in mode, for example ).
I think that with 6 experienced players, the game gets even more fun. Imagine the alliances. You could simultaneously nuke a player from 4 sides, virtually guaranteeing complete annihilation. Hehehe.
Anyway, check out the wikipedia entry for Defcon; it contains a lot of info and explains the entire game a little better than the tutorial. I mean, I (and you) understand the game but the allowed moves during the different defcon stages etc are explained in detail. And I love this quote featured on it

hehe...I've always loved the boss key. This thing would probably run great on my work pc. Unfortuanetly, everyone that comes into my office kinda comes in behind me, so it may not be a good idea.

Worth checking out: the Alan Wake trailer. About 70mb, r-click and save as
http://download.remedygames.com/movies/ ... _video.wmv
Remedy Games are the developers of the Max Payne series...so yeah, Alan Wake is gonna kick ass. I get goosebumps from just watching the trailer, always a good sign.

Hellgate London:
I know i know its in here somewhere but some updates
1. The third faction has been announced, the hunters, the futuristic gunslingers.
2. Extended trailer, that sheds some more light on things.
I have mixed feelings about this game but i know that i will give it a try.

Cant wait for it. I do also have mixed feelings (the whole gun thing tends to put me off) but since you can also use sword... hehe. Its the customisation and randomisation thats really got me interested, plus its Blizz so in theory it should be worthy of D2

I became interested in Hellgate London because of the DII team behind it and the amazing cinematic trailer, but after having seen the gameplay footage I'm a lot less enthusiastic...it all looks so bland, chaotic too. And if they really add as many weapons/damage types as they're saying they will it'll be a bitch keeping everything balanced.
I'm keeping an eye out for it but I'll let other people test it for me before I buy it, hehehe.

I hear ya Ox and i agree BUT...
1. They have set some pretty interesting goals for themselves. Hey the game may be crap to some extent but atleast it has some ambition unlike for instance World of Warcraft which copies everything from other games and unfortunately does it better than those who piloted the original idea.
2. From the footage and story i like what they have dont to the paladin (They can call him templar, but he is still the paladin class as we know it). IMO in D'n'D universe paladin has become one of the useless classes. NWN2 pretty much reinforced it. Paladins are supposed to be battle-hardened-front line commanders not some loser weaklings.
Ill think of something else for another time

Yeah, you're right...sorry if I sounded too suspicious of the game, I didn't really mean to. These guys (Bill Roper and co) are truly veterans of the industry with several massive titles under their belt so maybe I should cut them some slack. Also, I like their approach: they signed with Konami (I think) and they just told them 'look, we'll finish the game when it's done...in the meantime, just give us time and cash. We know we'll repay it.'
You gotta know that Konami is used to working with Asian console teams rather than Western pc-based developers. And the Asian teams work with strict schedules from the start. But Flagship Studios work rather chaotically and don't know anything like a schedule. So yeah, interesting team, situation and game.

There's nothing at all...the only relatively big title coming out is SpellForce 2: Dragon Storm. In January there's also the Burning Crusade for WoW, and Stalker is supposed to come out Q1 2007.

Damn what a list. Seems like Divine Divinity gets a sequel with decent graphics too.
