last few...you know, there's something else I noticed this time: when talking to Breen right beofre the endfight, he's trying to persuade you to choose his side right? Well, he mentions that "You must realize that your contract is up for the highest bidder" or something alike, with a smirk on his face. So, combining that with the G-man's remarks ("normally I wouldn't consider those offers, but these are..extraordinary times" etc.)it is obvious that Freeman is a mercenary tool of some sort. (if that hadn't been established before, anyway) But what's new is that not only the G-man and the Combine (presumably) know of this, but Breen, aka human puppet, does too. It's apparently not that secret info. Another thing is the obvious question of where the title half-life came from? There's no mentioning of a half-life in HL1 or 2. Methinks it refers to Gordon's "stasis-like" condition between HL1 and 2. And 3, when it arrives. :) Also, one of these pics features a type of NPC that doesn't appear in the game...you can see a glimpse of it shortly before arriving in Breen's office, check it out. maybe for the expansions? The pic is a bit dark tho. :( Other pics are just for fun. :)

well yeah there are a lot of unanswered questions in the story line of half-life, and the thing is HL3 is apparently inbetween 1 and 2, so i'm not entirely sure how the are going to be answered. Bit confusing really...like does anyone know what they actually accomplished in HL2? Not much in my opinion.

and the substance mod sounds like a plan, thogh not just yet, i've got far too much work to catch up on already

What I accomplished is kicking the ass of an evil regime! ;) Hehe..but true, not too many things are really explained, even tho there are enough signs to have a general idea of it. Did you read my rants earlier in this thread, about the Gman and the combine and whatnot? Not that it was very interesting, but bleh. I like to think I raised some good issues. :P

I was wondering if anyone here fiddled around with the source SDK yet? I've been trying my hand at it the last few days, and well, it looks pretty cool. Even I could do the most basic stuff after a few days. I mean, nothing spectacular, build basic rooms and filling them with basic stuff, my point is: if I can do it, anyone can. :P As I have no experience whatsoever with 3D modelling/building, which won't come as a surprise.

Yup, you can make em for HL2, DM, CS, and if you purchased it for DoD too I suppose. There's also a modding set that they included, but I'm too green to start dabbling with that.

As for time consuming...not really. Once you picked up the general ideas and habits you can make the most basic rooms in a minute or 5. But With exams in sight I fully understand you're not prepared to 'learn' yet another thing. it was a bit of a struggle for me too, trying to find out the most basic options. Anyway, if you do find the time; give it a spin.

Did you hear about the Lost Coast? It's a lvl designed specifically for high-end machines in which valve let loose. It's not out yet, it will be released in the near future. Here's an interesting article about it

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=58580

I guess that this:

Quote:
Valve's Victor Antonov explains the rationale about the level, which will require a 3.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM and a top spec graphics card: "Three months before shipping Half Life 2 the art and production team were shutting down," he recalls. "We had to think about the future, had to come up with a strategy for post Half-Life 2 art. What was the next level of visuals we could reach?

Shuts out all of us except Satis and BJ. Bastards. But I'll upgrade in a few month's time, when I'll be breaking my back at the old folks' home again.

Anyway, they recently released some screens and a hi-res videoclip. The clip is cool but too short. :( Here's some screens

http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/half ... /hl2_coast

here's the clip

http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=6832

Oh and this

Quote:
"In all current games, including Half-Life 2 the lighting is wrong," he admits in the PC Gamer piece. "Part of the gamey look is the inconsistency between the sky, the lighting, and the reflections. They don't look the way that they should."

Sounds like Satis. :P

you need one to install it, so it can authorize you online and decrypt the game. After that, it doesn't need one.
