IIRC it's always been free for people who own HL2. It's a sort of tech demo level that was released back when HDR was first implemented into Source to show off some effects.
It's short but a nice little level nonetheless.

Might pick up Resident Evil, gonna research it first.
Trine is a very nice little game, and very justifiable at that price (even if it has low replayability and is rather short).
