I wonder how this affects pc hardware. I mean hardware industry is bound to take a hit, thisfar its the pc gaming hardware thats been driving the industry, lots of small fish got money, now the consoles took over and all the money goes into sony ms and nintendo pocket.
Laptops still have the advantage of portability but desktops? Dying breed or toys of wealthy?

I think there'll always be a strong desktop market. A good desktop is pretty much required for many jobs... programmers are an obvious one, since programming on a laptop is a bitch. Even if you got an add-on keyboard, docked a laptop, and used an add-on monitor (at that point, you've bought a desktop), the hardware limitations of a laptop will always put it behind a desktop in terms of price and power.
Anyone that requires a lot of number crunching power or multi tasking I think would benefit from a true desktop. And then there's safety concerns... it's easier to smuggle out a laptop loaded with crap than try to smuggle out a laptop.
And then there's CAD and such... that's also a very huge market for graphics cards and computer hardware. No way would they go to laptops. And 3g designers, like for movies and such.

yeah i don't see it as a failing market for desktops; we still get a lot of people buying pc games, just far less than consoles. But MMOs of course are a major thing that is *mainly* pc only and a lot of people who game won't touch a laptop due to them being finickity about what will work and what won't.

Yea but laptops can rival most desktops in terms of power, sure they cost an arm and a leg and ones soul but just look at alienware for instance, SLI configuration in a laptop, insane but doable. It huge and ugly sure but its still portable although without powercord the battery runs like 5 minutes if you fire up a high req game.
Console games are like cancer for pc gaming. Its quite difficult to even build a decent rig for 200$ which is the cheapest x360.
Anyway the way i see it is that pc hardware companies will take some sort of hit for sure and there will be a sudden boom in aftermarket or consumer to consumer market, which ofcourse is good for people but bad for companies.

Maybe more people are buying from places like amazon or play, but its like a vicious circle, if there is less choice on the shelves then its only going to make it worse.

I just wanted to add that I prefer check-point systems. Saving anywhere takes the challenge out for me. I can do a bit, save a bit, do a bit, save a bit if I can save anywhere.
If it's a check point system, I've got no choice but to be better at the game.

A checkpoint system is ok if the checkpoints are done intelligently. If I have to play for 10 minutes to get to a point, then I'm killed and have to start over...and again... and again... then I'm pissed.ie, there should be a checkpoint immediately before and after any difficult encounter.
Equally annoying is if there are no auto-saves. Invariably I'll forget to save and lost 30 minutes of gameplay.

lol, yea, the 'love story' was pretty lame. But about what you'd expect in the Star Wars universe, so it's not really out of place.
