Oh, there are a ton of small bugs yeah - didn't notice the wall one but many others. Some are so blatant that it's really irritating to have to endure them every time. For example, for some reason the AI sometimes refuses to move units/characters directly from a city to a town. And when I say 'sometimes' I mean 'most of the time'.
Which means that if I want to move a gentleman from my capital Amsterdam to my university town Ultrecht, I often can't just select his portrait in the 'agents' screen and march it down the nearby Utrecht. Instead, I have to select him, walk out of Amsterdam with him first and THEN he can move to Utrecht. Gah. How can such a glaring bug pass QA? It's not quite gamebreaking but it does get annoying after the 100th time.
The game sometimes feels like they ironed out the most flagrant game-breaking bugs but let a whole bunch of smaller ones free reign. Meh.
Gonna try your puckle guns strategy. They work especially well when defending an area like the entrance to a fort.

they way I usually set it up is line infantry - puckle - line infantry
That way if a unit gets close enough to physically engage the puckle gun, I just close in the line units from either side to protect it. No need getting the crew massacred.

Meh, I'll just replenish the units afterwards. Plenty of cash anyway.
Did you notice if units lose XP if you replenish them btw? Would make sense. If you only have 1 rank 3 puckle gunner left and replenish the unit with 15 new men, they wouldn't suddenly become 3 times as experienced. In RTW and Medieval you could lose XP if you merged lesser experienced units with experienced ones, but could retrain units freely iirc. Which doesn't make sense, but I'll run with it.

I rarely merge, just retrain. I did some merging when my game was brand new and I had massive cash issues. That stopped being a problem a long time ago.
BTW, I'm still not playing E:TW. :p TF2 and L4D are about all I play right now. I'll go back to empire eventually, just haven't had the itch yet.

lol @ that bugfix list. Looks like every single action you could take in the game was bugged. Which doesn't surprise me ALL that much really.
Probably gonna play some more this weekend...got today off so three-day weekend w00t!

Wow...like, tires with chains on them? Or just winter tires? I could see the former being problematic, but the latter seems excessive. I don't even know what a winter tire is.
So...you guys get May Day off? Or is it something else?

It's labour day. To celebrate the achievements of the worker unions over the years. It's traditionally a socialist-ish holiday (and was/is a bigday in any communist state), but for most of us that meaning has been lost a long time ago. It's just a non-religious public holiday, much like Martin Luther King day really (in that it commemorates civil rights advancements).

No chains, just small spikes in 'em. Not allowed to use starting from May 1st. Use of chains is now allowed at all.

No free day over here, only for my university (Universiteit van Amsterdam), which has always been a socialist bulwark.

heh...in America, where worker exploitation is still strongly encouraged, everyone has to work extra hard. Labor day is, after all, about doing more labor.

 Re: Empire: Total War
My god, what the fuck happened to the AI. I am never touching the auto-resolve button again. I lost a city when i had like 600 defenders and the enemy had 200 attackers and it was epic loss, i was however able to immediately recapture it and restock my troops.
Started playing on hard difficulty and as Sweden and the difficulty shows, ending the first turn resulted in war with poland, three turns later i am at war with russia, poland and denmark. Theres no end to the pirates screwing the trade lanes and i cant make a decisive move against anyone because i am attacked from every direction, literally, russians from east, Danes from west, poland from south. Anyway, the danes are about to eat some dust as i am making my move on them next.
