2. Call of Duty 2 Big Red One (or summin) is this an extension?

The Big Red One was an Army unit during World War II, not a sexual innuendo.

Cool...I noticed (by accident) that historical correctness is pretty good in CoD2. In-game you scale the cliffs of Point du Hoc on D-day, disable long-range cannons and later hold the famous battle of Hill 400 in germany, with the same American unit.
Turns out that this actually all happened, and by the same unit...which is pretty cool. Anyhoo, I'm bored so this explanation sucks, but suffice to say that what happens in-game actually happened in WW2.
Just a question tho Satis: is "the big red one' actually a more 1337 infantry division than others in the US army, or just a random unit with a special name/number? I.e., do they divert top-notch infantrymen from other units to that one or is it just a random grasp of recruits (like most units).

The Big Red One is the first infantry Division, the oldest US infantry unit still in existence. And their symbol is a big, red one. As for leetness...not how you mean, no. They don't take hte best soliders and stuff em into that unit. However, man of the units that have historical significance find that very important, leading to more exercises/drills and, due to their reputations. So, in the end, they very well may end up leet, but more of a consequence of more training/action than choosing 'the best'.

On the other hand, they're still just Army scumbags, so any Rangers unit would probably still outclass them.

yea, probably.
And special forces would pwn the rangers.
And delta force would pwn special forces.

Special Forces
Paras
Rangers
Army
Arent Delta special forces anyway? I thought they were units like Seals and Delta.
I dont know where Marines would go. Maybe above army? But then i dont know if they should be below Rangers.

well, it's more complicated then that
infantry = army
air assault = army infantry that have air assault training (rappelling out of helicopters, basically)
airborne = army infantry that have airborne training (parachuting out of airplanes)
you can have air assault/airborne infantry that have done both schools
rangers do both of those schools + some more stuff
special forces is even more elite...they take even more school in addition to airborne and air assault stuff
all of those are army
the other services have similar elite groups
delta force doesn't supposedly exist, but is the cream of the cream of the crop, and takes the best of special forces from all branches of the military
as for comparing branches, IE Army Infantry vs Marine Infantry...saying one is better than the other is purely conjecture.

Does the Air Force have its own infantry? What are they called?
If so, why arent Airborne soldiers (Rangers + Airborne) lumped in with the Air Force?
So Rangers are the special forces of the Army. I take it Seals are special forces of the Navy? Does the Air Force have special forces too?

The Air Force's "infantry" are the SPs, which are basically like MPs. They do have elite forces...I forget what they're called, but they're the guys that recover downed pilots behind enemy lines. Not a bunch of lightweights, despite what the rest of the Air Force is.
Airborne is mainly infantry...they just jump out of airplanes. I'm not sure if the jump planes are considered Air Force or Army. Helicopters are Army. That may not make sense, but combat infanty needs to be Army. If you ever saw SPs pretending to be infantry you'd know why.
And no, rangers aren't special forces of hte army. Special forces (aka green berets) are the special forces of the army. Rangers are just more-elite infantry. Special forces is the cream of the Army. And yes, SEALS are the Navy equivalent of Army special forces, Force Recon I believe is the marine equivalent. That air rescue thing I mentioned above is the Air Force equivalent.
Delta Force stands apart from them all. It's unified across the branches. But, it doesn't officially exist.

heh...ok.
SPs (the Air Force version of Army MPs) are basically the Air Force's infantry replacement. They're supposed to defend the air base against ground attack should it come to that.
They're a bunch of pussies.
The supply soldiers in my unit (y'know, the guys that hand out blankets and shit) outshot these dudes on the range. Every person in my unit would. And they just lack that hardcore factor. To these guys, a 3-day field exercise is long. When I was on the airbase, they worked on the 12-on, 12-off principle. 12 hours of exercise, 12 hours of hanging out at the barracks and sleeping. OMFG.
So, basically, bunch a fuckin' pussies. I'd rather have Army in a trench with me (ANY ARMY) than an SP.
