Heh...not necessarily no, but in the end it comes down to it that I have more time to do different things this way. Because if I were to sit down and divide my time properly over the different things I need to do, I would lose extra time by doing that. If that makes sense. Besides, I always found that something you did in one loog stretch is always more coherent than something that was built piece by piece. It's easier to keep track of your writing when it's still fresh in your memory...almost every paper I (completely) wrote last-minute was better than those I had half done already and just had to finish up.

As for reading it...well, I might put in a pdf sometime, but I didn't correct it yet (made an errata but didn't get around to actually correcting things yet) and I haven't even re-read it myself. I still have to get a copy printed for my own use...I was too cheap to print an extra copy when I was getting the three needed for uni. (promotor, second reader, archives) :( That shit costs about 10€ a piece...I was like, 'dude, I'll do it later'. Cue 5-6 months later, had cash in the meantime, then blew it, now I can't afford it anymore.

I don't think anyone expected anything else from me.

I'm holding off on QIV until I finish some of the games I'm currently playing (ie, B&W2, FEAR and Fable). FEAR shouldn't be much longer. Dunno about the other two.

Heh; want to make sure you can devote all your attention aye? :P

Just read the review of Quake IV in my mag...86% (90-95% are the top scores), so awesome but not super-1337-brilliant. They say it's still the best fast-paced shooter around, but that there's a lack of innovation in both the SP and MP. Sounds about like what we all expected. :)

Btw, Quake IV will (finally) replace Painkiller in the CPL (Cyberathlete Professional League) world tour. Go for it man, try to qualify for one of the main events in the US. Those guys make cash with gaming hard...dang.

P.S. Too many good games coming out...QIV, CoD 2, Barbarian Invasion, Football manager 2006, F.E.AR., Civilization IV...and then we didn't even see a release date for Oblivion yet. :o

Thanks to the Oblivion delay, ive been getting into KOTOR 2 and Civ 4 these days.

KOTOR 2 is fundamentally boring. The only thing keeping me playing is the fact that its Star Wars.

Civ4 is just what Civ3 did for Civ2. Answer: Not alot. New graphics engine thats fundamentally flawed. The gameplay remains essentially based on the old Civ2 which is what you'd expect, but isnt it about time they revamped its greatness for todays standard? Like making it more complex?

Well I do like the new civics a lot. But they should change more. Have more extras and flaws. The greatest improvement is supposed to be the multiplayer, but I haven't been doing that yet. I barely have time for the single player already. Also the interface should be more clear without all the menus, but there just seems to be less info. The civilopedia is a disappointment, only wonders have a real discription. Couldn't they just have copy-pasted that info from earlier games? A lot of the units, improvements and tech is the same as earlier games anyway. And I still miss the Civ 2 advisors.
On the other hand, because of the new graphical engine the world has come much more alive. A lot of things are animated and you can see individual city improvements from the main map. It gives you the feeling you're doing more then computer chess. And the concept is still great. The game is also supposed to be easy to mod, so I hope there will be a lot of fan improvements this time.

In short, I love this game, but I wonder how long I will keep busy with it.

I hear ya. Yes the interface is also fundamentally flawed. It just takes too long to get to where you want, and when you get there, it takes ages getting out.

Which texture do you hate most of all? I know mine, the Mech Infantry. It looks sooo shit.

And yes the Civopaedia is shit too. Theres no index. And this 'Top' bullshit. Why not just say 'Main'?

Arathorn, i think theyve moved the emphasis away from the single player quality. If you look at the manual, there are huge sections on Multiplayer and Modding.

And another 2 thing that bug me!:

- The largest map setting is just too fucking small. I like a really overwhelming size, like Civ2.

- Regarding all the rules and features of the game, you could essentially play it from begginning to end without even touching them. It does it all for you. Dumb.

PS.

Oh and the combat is still pretty dumb too. No tactics still. Just get to hill and fortify.

Multiplayer is al that counts nowadays. That's why Civ IV gets raving reviews everywhere. But I don't give a shit about that.
It took me half a game to find out where the Civiliopedia even is. In Civ II, when you invented something, there was the tech tree in the same screen, now I have to click into another screen wich closes the new tech selection screen. I have no idea of the cohesion between all the techs.

I would like a little RTS touch in combat. Like Centurio essenstially worked. Did you ever play that game ages ago? I believe it was a little bit like Defender of the Crown, but I never played that.

I played Defender of the Crown. Wasn't that a really old dos game, where you play robin hood or something? That was actually kinda cool.

Anyway, haven't played Civ4 and don't plan to. I agree on KOTOR2...it's a snoozer. I didn't even get half way through the game before giving up on it. Sad sad sad. Even more sad is that it got decent reviews.

@ Arathorn. What i find equally moronic is that when you discover a new civic, it asks you if you want to adopt it straight away without giving you the chance to see what its all about.

Yeh i found the Civopaedia is only useful for finding details on resources. That too! Resources are still woefully neglected.

Did you get to the stage where UN Resolutions start to pop up? Man i fucking hate that shit. I was #1 for many years yet Roosevelt ALWAYS won the elections. I had no chance every time. Worse still, the Resoltions always failed!

No i didnt play Centauri. I was hooked on CivII, then moved onto Baldurs Gate and missed the while Centuari thing.

Can i emphasise again the fact that Civ4 has dumbed down? You no longer need to keep an eye on things.

@ Satis. Im starting to get the impression that game-review writers are video-game geeks that eat up hype, digest only the tasty outer-shells and crap out bullshit.
