Post Valve's surprise at E3
They had a "Portal 2 event" planned for E3 but have sent out a strange press release announcing its cancellation and replacement with a 'surprise'. Could it be? Episode 3?!

Dear Subject Name Here,

Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event at the Regal Theater. The event will be replaced by a surprise. And even though the cancellation of the event certainly counts as a surprise, we are pleased to further announce that the cancellation of the event is not THE surprise. However, per International treaties regarding the definition of the word “surprise”, of which both Aperture Science and Valve are signatories, the time, date and content of the actual surprise will only become available as you experience the surprise.

If you’d like to ask fruitless questions about the E3 Portal 2 surprise or, more fruitfully, schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve’s Special Envoy to Surprises, Doug Lombardi.

Thank you for < RECORD SCRATCH!!! >

PS: The surprising record scratch is also not the surprise.

Portal 2 is still shown at E3, just the event slot is used for something else. Clever clever Valve. They probably had this planned long ago. We do similar stuff at my job too...planning fake meetings as 'placeholders' in case we actually need to hold an urgent real meeting when the time comes.

So, it could be anything?

I hope it's not Ep 3. Don't really dig those expansions. L4D3? Counterstrike 2? They're tall orders maybe.

I could care less about Half Life episode 3. I hope it's something that I actually care about. Hell, I'd care more about the engineer update for tf2 than hl ep3

...

Jesus, you guys are a tough crowd. Regardless of how incredibly jaded you bastards are, I think it's pretty much agreed on that the Episodes have been top notch gaming fun. And seeing as how this is the supposed final piece of the HL2 story, I don't think it'll just be a 7-hour episode like before (if it is Ep 3).

I have a sneaky suspicion that Episode 3 and Portal 2 may be the same game, in a way - like a new orange box. Episode 3, Portal 2 and a 'new' MP game? CS 2?

But I wouldn't say no to L4D3 either. :P And as much as I'd like to see the engi update, seems unlikely that they'll use an E3 slot to announce it. ;)

nah, I'd doubt they're announcing any engie update. HL2 ep3 is a possibility, but honestly the whole episodic thing has been a massive let down. We're still waiting just as long or longer between games and we're only getting a few hours of game time before it's over. Granted, it's cheaper, but it's just a let down for me. Plus the story in episode 1 started kinda puttering along, and episode 2 was pretty lame. Lots of sophomoric romance bs and very little meat.

Whatevah... if ep3 is part of another orange box, I'll get it, but more because of the other things in the box. If it's stand-alone only, I'm not sure I'll actually care enough to pick it up.

Oh man. Have we moved to the jade point so far that you'll only pay for a box that holds 3 games? :P

(kidding, I know you pay full price for single games too - ie metro 2133)
