 Dark Messiah MP Open Beta
Anyone playing the open beta? I got my code from gamespot but i have some major connection issues, i mean the game joins a session like 10minutes and when it finally gets in the game i cant move, every time a player appears on screen, it displays no connection sign in lower right corner.
Steam help page is as useful as sandpaper in toilet, its crude and rugged and unorganized but i guess if one wants to spend a few hours reading the topics, one might find the cure.
But i find it interesting to organize an open beta and not even making sure the most basic thing works, that a person can join a session and move around in the game world.
Now you probably wonder, "tough luck shity computer" or something in that direction. But every other game: WoW, Everquest, Battlefield vietnam, Battlefield 2, Planetside and countles more, the connection works just fine.
After few hours of downloading atleast the game should be somewhat playable. Any suggestion is welcome, and god save us from Steam.

Let me draw up some conclusions here:
1) Cutting-Edge Technology - Absolutly, it cuts edges of technology no problem.
2) Neverending action - Ofcourse because the loading screen is in a neverending loop
3) A revolutionary, addictive multiplayer mode - I guess watching the loading screen can be called revolutionary.

lol...it sounds to me like Peltz isn't overjoyed with the quality of the multiplayer beta. Better luck next time. At least you didn't spend a long ass time downloading battlefield 2142 only to realize you couldn't play it because you didn't have a key and no more keys were available.

I have only one thing to say:
it uses steam, you really expect it to work?!

Weeell...
creators of Penumbra even intended to use services of steam in an short period. But they found better solutions. Regardless of that, their game is still lame, from the technical side.

Lol i finally got it to work, turned out i needed to use medium/low settings. the MP cant be run on high settings.
But soon after gettin into the game the joy ended. The MP plays so clunky and weird its defenatly not my kind of MP.
BTW! anyone remember Legends of Might and Magic? well its the same thing in new cover. Infact, other than the graphics and enviroment, its the same game.

Let's not judge the game on its low-setting open beta MP just yet, you know? It looks more like a SP game from everything I've seen anyway...strangely, "free" MP is often reserved for games that don't have a good and/or popular MP mode. Games like HL2 or something know that they have a good thing going with their MP so they don't just give it away for free...
Btw, I don't dislike Steam. I used to hate it when my pc was slower and when it was suffering from the inevitable initial bugs; but I've grown to appreciate it. Apart from being Valve's behemoth money maker it's also a good chance for small developers to release titles without having to find a producer willing to invest in dropping the game in stores (and promoting it).
I like steam more than I hate it.

I did not mean any disrespect towards the SP of the game, its just that the MP part feels way too strange having played BF2. The SP will probably be a blast.

HL2 Multiplayer is for-pay? Wtf? You're joking...there's an additional fee to kill dumbasses online?
Anyway...I really want battlefield 2142 to come out for my next MP fix.

I meant that in order to play HL2 MP, you have to pay...either for HL2 or seperately gor Deathmatch, CS, or any other MP mode. Games like FEAR released their MP part for free as a standalone; as seems to be happening with the Dark Messiah beta (to an extent).
I never dug battlefield...maybe it's because you rarely feel like you're making much of an impact, you know? Back in the original BF you could wreak total havoc as a good pilot, but these days it's more balanced out. That's good, but I like to own.

I don't know about you, but I could put some serious pwnage down on fools with Battlefield 2. My best classes were the assault dude with the grenade launcher (nade kills ftw!), the medic (upgraded medic rifle for teh sniping win, plus keeping peeps alive), and SF (blow up all their pretty crap, blow up tanks, blow up people). I only stopped playing because the server population suddenly dropped.

Well, I never played BF2 much so I can't say I have a big opinion on it Did you play the original? If so, can you make a comparison between the two games?

yea, i played 1942, battlefield vietnam and battlefield 2. Vietnam was shit...horribly unbalanced. 1942 was cool...slower paced than battlefield 2, but battlefield 2 had some really great enhancements...like the squad dynamic and commanders and crap.
I'm really looking forward to the next installment.
