I love it! The military part wasn't spectacular, but the economic thing was fantastic! Get better citizens, get better citizens, import this, export that, get an iron mine so we can send it to Caesar.... Just hated the earthquakes

Well I used to (cd is lost in a box somewhere ) build a big square, where I'd put all my houses in, always (the | | is a square, k?) |ROAD||HOUSE|HOUSE|ROAD, otherwise the Praefect and Engineer couldnt reach it if they had to be there. Sometimes I made fountains or markets there in stead of houses. Then I built the other buildings around that square. If I needed more ppl, I'd start a new square behind one side of the square. Usually, if I played a military map, I built walls all across it, with towers and ballistas (one tent nearby to make sure it was manned). Barracks and academy were in the city, and the forts were outside the walls. My economical stuff like farms were far away from my 'squares', but they had walls with towers and ballistas as well. I should play this game. I still can remember the in-game song.... together with some building selection sounds

I've played it - and have it - but my brother plays it much more than I.

I usually build housing in 4x4 or 4x8 blocks. That way it can be filled with insulae. Between the blocks of houses I built social things like libraries, schools and theatres.
I always played the huge maps so I could have my industry and military far away. People hate those things, espescially the military ones.

Dark Archer: I fail to imagine your setup mate.
Arathorn: 4X4 ? How the heck do you get food in there?
Can you guys draw a pic for me? It'd be much easier.

Well, you just have a big square.. say... 10x10, but then 1 spot road, 2 spots houses, 1 spot road, etc. etc. so it's actually a 10x6 houses, with 4 times a road between the houses.

By having markets on both sides of a block. 4x4 isn't that much, all the bigger housing takes 2x2.

Just found my old C3 save of London. 20k population. Its totally stable at this point, but i cant figure out a way to get more food to the places that need it in order to upgrade the houses. Ah well, im happy enough. Its the best ive ever done in terms of population.

What's in the rar, the savegame? I'm too lazy to check. Might check it out tomorrow if it's a savegame, I believe I've still got Caesar III installed here.
