Does anyone of you (except Satis) do anything with 3D modeling?
I ask this because after a long pause I resumed my tries to learn how to use Blender, helped by the new interface.
Now I was wondering if one of you uses a program like this, what are your experiences with them?
What's your favourite program?

This is something I made tonight btw.
A simple low-poly model of a car.

No idea.

That answer isn't possible. You either do 3D things or not, surely you know yourself what you are doing?

Ha lol. Read your question wrong.

I'd haveto say. NO

Does that mean I'm not allowed to have an opinion on this topic? Something tells me I'm about the only other 3d modeller on here. :/

It means that I already know you use that, so you don't have to answer the question whether you do.

ahhh, ok. I can deal with that.

In that case, my favorite 3d modeling program is currently Cinema4d. It's amazing what you can do with that. Particles are pretty cool (though I really don't know much about them yet).

I was doing a project in c4d but got sidetracked when I started my site redesign. I'll probably get back to it once I finish my site.

Here's some of the basic assets I was creating for the animation. They're not quite finished yet, but the fighter is very close (unless I decide to rebuild it).

Wow! I'm far away of being able to do that. :)

it's honestly not that hard. It's just time consuming. I've never used Blender, so I don't know how it handles modeling, but with c4d it's just a matter of placing primitives and cutting them to how I want them (or doing boolean operations). The fighter, for instance, is primarily just a bunch of squares, resized and squashed, with some chunks cut off with the knife tool.

Modeling a car to be realistic would be a serious pain because of all the odd curves and stuff. And then texturing is pretty rough too.

There are some serious design flaws in your missile and jet Satis.

The things I've tried with Blender were all with extrusion, I think that is the mayor tactic for that program, although I'm sure there are lots of ways to make something an other way, but I don't know them yet.

I don't want the car to be very realistic, because I want to use it in a game (Transport Empire, a 3D sequal to Transport Tycoon), so it has to be as low-poly as possible, as there will be a lot of moving objects to be calculated, and the view will be quite small anyway.
But texturing will be a pain in the ass, although maybe someone elsee can do that with the models I provide.

damn cool fighter satis :D

Thanks Tyranus. What's wrong with the fighter/missile, Derf? Just for the record, they're actually meant for use in space. And yes, I know that wings and other control surfaces are completely useless in space, but I thought they looked cool.

Texturing is mainly just really time consuming. If you can texture it surface-by-surface, it's not too bad...texturing curves is a pain, though.

I used Maya a while back - the program used to moddle the movie "final fantasy" which i liked, but i never got round to finishing all the tutorials etc...

I never finished many Blender tutorials either, you can get quite far by only trying.

This is my latest thing, a lttile too much poly's for the game, but who cares, I like the result so far.
I modeled it after an existing train by the way.
