Yea, I saw that. Scary shit. Thankfully the school is having a class-action lawsuit filed against it. Though I hate seeing a school district deprived of money, hopefully that'll send a pretty strong message about privacy. And I hope the people behind that see jail time. Child porn anybody? It's ridiculous. |

Lol. What the hell? School boards aren't usually known for their tech savvy and innovative techniques in dealing with student behavior. This is just plain weird (and freaky). Anyway, another good reason never to have cameras connected to the internet on in your home that you're not actively using. ![]() My laptop has a built-in camera facing towards me too, and I disabled it long ago. All people would see was my face and hairy chest anyway. Occasional self-nipple-tweaking. But still...wouldn't want it broadcast in any way. ![]() P.S. nipple thing was a joke |

Quite disturbing indeed although i agree it's also a bit strange, since most schools seem to be a couple of lightyears behind when it's about using technology and stuff. I wonder how they monitored it, did they have to hire someone to watch the surveilllance cams or was there a secret lair with a gigantic wall of screens with all the webcam views or what? |

The story I read stated that a kid got punished for something he did at home and they pretty much just came out and said that they had the ability to turn on the camera and spy on the kid whenever they felt like it. here's the article http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news ... t-home.ars

Any idea what "improper behavior" at home could entail? I mean...afaik school hasn't anything to say about what their students do at home. Sure, if they smoke behind the school or masturbate on the front door I could see them getting pissed off and getting away with punishing that, but at home? Isn't that where, you know, parents are calling the shots on what they can and can't do? If real, that's some serious big brother shit right there. ![]() |

Here's a follow up article on Ars. Looks like it's for real, btw. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news ... mpaign=rss
The truth will probably come out as the lawsuit unfolds, unless the school district just settles. |

Looks like the FBI is now involved to see if the school violated federal anti-wiretap laws. Nice.
