This grabbed my attention.

I agree, but the politicians will run to the rescue so they can claim "look how many jobs we saved". And things will get better for a short while but then it all goes down the toilet again.

Hah! I guess some people are just crazy and can't do without their job. I mean, I could respect that if your job is the best thing since sliced bread (like being a gay fluffer or something), but apart from being a pilot I don't see too many earth-shatteringly fun careers at BA.

The unpaid leave thing, though, I'd be down with. Most people who're fairly settled can do a month without income with relative ease, so why not take the additional holiday? Dang, I'd sign for that stuff right here and now if I could (but then, I don't have many expenses these days).

One thing's for sure: I'd spend one day of that month going to work to see who came in for no pay. And laugh, laugh, laugh.

unpaid leave? Screw that. I need my income. Even a month without income would be a pretty big hit. Not that I couldn't survive it (I do have some savings), but damn.

Working for free, fuck no. 40 hours a week? I could spend that 40 hours looking for another job or learning some new skill or something. Anyone willing to get screwed that bad needs to make sure they get jobs in some industry other than my own.

The worst thing is that, at least for most of those companies, within a month after this news the CEO will get a big bonus.

haha, you sound as disillusioned as I do. Man I hate corporations. It's like being in a corporation gives everyone the right to act like an ass with no amount of ethics or morality.

I'm reading Malcolm Gladwell's 'outliers' atm and it has a few chapters that focus on the change in corporate business ethics that occured early in the 20th century, when they went from considering hostile takeover as shameful and dirty (and as such it was rarely done) to, well, the forebode of today with companies screwing each other over as much as they can.

Satis, as a fan of office life, you should really try playing the Sam & Max episode 'What's up Beelzebub?'. Basically, they travel to hell and find out that it is a cubicle office with Satan running things, the clock eternally stuck on 16:59h and incompetent employees in go-nowhere jobs. It's a succint criticism. :) Oh and it gets even more fun when your objective becomes to bring down 'company efficiency' of hell in order to see the boss (ie Satan).

Those Sam and Max games just never really appealed to me. I doubt I'd ever actually play it. But I'll keep it in mind, thanks!
