As you may or may not know, the presidents of the US have generally speaking been forbidden from using email and/or cellphones because it is unsafe or would give away their location etc etc. (there are a few exceptions but those are ultra rare).

Obama is a Blackberry addict so he was pretty worried about not being able to take it with him into the office, and it seems they compromised: a 3000 dollar heavily encrypted blackberry, approved by the NSA.

But what stood out the most for me in that story is this part:

Quote:
In addition, the Apple-loving adminstration has been dismayed at the antiquated tech infrastructure in the White House, where some computers are still running Windows 2000. White House spokesperson Bill Burton notes, "It is kind of like going from an Xbox to an Atari." Some staffers, upon finding their official White House email had yet to be set up, began using Gmail accounts to stay in touch with the outside world (after approval from White House legal counsel, of course).

ROFLBBQ! Windows 2000?!!

heh....guess it's nice having someone that actually understands the internet some in the white house. Unlike the previous tenant who probably didn't understand electricity.

yea, I'm trying to reserve judgement, but he's a politician. I doubt he's going to change anything. More of the same political handouts for the same people.

He's already appointed RIAA people to two top government jobs and is working on a $6billion handout for the existing internet companies. Sounds like more of the same shit to me.

Heh I thought the same thing, they covered it on the tv over here and of course started the whole "he says he's gonna do this and that and blah blah blah" and I thought "yeah, they all have grand plans, then just sit there raking in the money..." Ah well we shall see.
