Deepest ever living fish filmed...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7655358.stm

I like the feeling when im reminded that not 100% of the world is mapped and categorised.

hmmm. interesting. Is it just me or did it look like they had eyes?

Very cool. And I agree with the guys comment about 'surprisingly cute'. The 'deepest' fish that I'd seen previously were all big, ugly things that looked like something out of a horror movie. But those look pretty, well, normal.

They indeed have something that looks like eyes. The God knows how and what they see.

Btw, life is fascinating, but besides that I see nothing about these fishes. They are just... fishes to me.

They see through your very soul! Then they devour it with their vibration receptors. You don't want to mess with deep sea fish!!

Seriously though, they look kinda...eerie. And it never ceases to amaze me that things can live at those depths without, well, imploding. The equipment they use to get this deep is all coated in thick thick layers of titanium.

Derf, don't worry man, there's still a good chance we find some craaaazy shit down there. 90% of the ocean depths are still invisible to us, so there's even a slim chance of their being a monstrously large creature down there somewhere. W00t!

Or a crashed alien spaceship.

True, but I assume they'd be dead by now. :( What's the point of aliens if they're FUBAR?

So true... and why? See an excerpt of your own post:

The point: try to eat it, and your teeth will likely go off.

Bring on the giant squid, that's what I'm waiting for!

They should send it down the Mariana Trench..must be some good shit down there.

oh yea, I'm sure there're all kinds of awesome things down under water. Considering we're finding life like EVERYWHERE, it's inevitable that at least something simple lives down there.

I believe they do it by being very thin. If the water pressure is just as high inside the fish as outside, it won't implode. There's probably very little cavities in those creatures.

Well, as long as the pressure on the inside and outside are equal, you don't have to worry about implosion. But that includes inside the individual cells, too, so those are probably some pretty tough creatures. Or maybe not. If you brought them up to the surface they'd explode at a cellular level.

I do know that deep sea fish die pretty fast once they're taken out of their habitat, so you might both be right.

Found this:

Quote:
Fish are mostly made of water, like us. However, they don't contain as much gas in their bodies as we do(oxygen in our blood, burrito gas in our stomachs, and air pockets in our ear canals. Their bodily water pressure is at the same pressure as the water in their surroundings. If we were born and raised down there too, we'd probably be wondering how those creatures on the surface survive WITHOUT pressure! (Yes, I know we do have 14.7 psi of it.)

Games are like porn these days. There isn't anything so bizarre that it hasn't been made into porn or a game. :P
