Yeah, the people act like retarded cattle and there is need for making them behave or don't open the shops at all.
If somebody want to sell 300 articles extra cheap to 2000 people, he can't expect anything but a stampede. In this case lots safer is to decide online or with phone calls "who should get them". Aftermath there shall be only 300 people waiting for 300 articles outside the building. Anything else should be illegal.

I don't know what's more sad, the fact that people would riot and kill each other over stupid crap, or the fact that stores basically encourage that behavior by not stocking enough items.
I agree that a store should have to have enough of something on hand to satisfy demand. Anything less is basically a bait-and-switch. "Oh, sorry, we're out of the $50 xbox360... but here's another for only $250. You don't want to go home empty handed, do you?"
I think if the stores started being held criminally liable for injuries incurred on their premises this kind of thing would happen a lot less often.

"I do feel like not leaving you (the shop) a penny of my money, dude." is my politics. I boycott like... eh, at least five stores here for being assholes to foreigners.
At home only shops could start boycott me for depressing poor cashiers who tried to rise the actual cost / in addition were impolite / didn't give the change. Advantage of knowing the language well.

i think it's a sign of how fucked up society can get.
go to most other places in the world and people are stampeding for food, not for a fucking playstation.

You missed the point. its free advertising, i bet it would cost sh*tloads of money to be on the news all around the world. Even in estonia it broke the news line. Dont worry, they'll send a fruit basket to the deceased.

Well, technically they could be sued civilly. I don't know if it would go anywhere, but anyone that was even mildly injured (even mentally) could bring a civil suit against the store. If I ended up with a dislocated jaw because of some PS3 riot I'd certainly consider a big fat lawsuit.
