hehe, hi. Yes that was me. I just wanted to make sure I didn't completely break anonymous posting by accident.

Would be intelligent to disable it if possible.

I think that's rather the choice of principle "let people not have to register in order to post" than a question of intelligence.

I've just done that on my shit hole of a forum.

Using something called "Anti Spam ACP"

Pretty sweet so far.

I may have to take a look at that. Right now all my antispam efforts are manual, pretty much. I thought about turning it into a real mod, but that's too much of a pain in the butt.

EDIT: THE LINK BELOW IS THE OLDER VERSION

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=465600

Installed in a matter of seconds, had a minor hicup some problem with EasyMod though, which cured it's self. Probably takes around 15-20 minutes manually, not sure. Says on the front post somewhere.

EDIT: THIS IS THE NEW VERSION

I'll check it out. I'll need to go over the code and see what it does.

I started disliking it with the first words of info. Cannot quote because the phpBB forum is dead right now.

What seems to me as an elegant solution to me is rather restricting the "image" of forum and profiles that anonymous visitors (let say google or yahoo bots) see, than limiting profiles of users for real. "Let bots enter their data, for they might not be bots, but don't allow search engines to see this data before the user advances a little."

And of course: The phpBB's visual confirmation system is a cracked thing already. I knew a forum that was getting 7-10 new bots registered every day, regardless of this protection and till they switched to XMB. So smart is phpBB.

Solution? Add something simplest in the registration form. Like "seventy six minus zero is ___". Anything that would confuse bots much more than new users. Of course, this will not stop the people who are registering bots manually.
