this is very interesting, if nothing else.

So Beautiful, So Disturbing
I wake. For a moment, I stare at the ceiling trying to remember something. Something important. Something important happened last night, but the details escape me. Something fascinating yet sinister, like touring the CIA offices. Something exotic yet somehow familiar, like putting hot sauce on meatloaf. I wonder if I have a hangover. I wonder why I am thinking about the CIA and meatloaf. I roll onto my side.

There is a strange woman in bed with me.

A lot of things happen at once. First, I realize that this is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, and I am a lucky, lucky man. Second, I realize that this is not my wife, and I panic. Third, I realize that she's awake, has been watching me sleep. Fourth, before I can really react to thoughts 1 and 2, she smiles at me and speaks with a lovely accent I can't quite place: "So. You like new wife, yes? Yes. Up now, I make breakfast."

I'm not sure I know what to make of that. I'll probably install a students copy of Vista when things start to get compatible for it, so long as it has good reputation at that point.

So windows Vista looks amazing but acts like a femme fatale? One that refuses access to the most basic system info? Why am I not surprised. :)

Gonna be a while before I install Windows Vista as well. Maybe when I get a directx10 card.

I'll almost certainly be waiting for service pack 1 to be released. Then I'll see what reviews say.

I'm looking at laptops (to take to Prague) atm, and most of them, even the rather basic ones, come with Vista. Then I was also looking at a gamer-monster-system (desktop) with 2 gig of ram, 640 GB HD space and a GT 8800 to name but a few specs. For some BIZARRE reason, the only system that would actually be worth it to have Vista (with directx10 and all) came with XP. Huh?

Anyway, laptops suck. But I can't take my whole pc down there - yet. So I guess I'll have to buy one and play budget games. The horror!

Vista really is a strange beast. I have two laptops on my desk. One is Vista Basic Home and the other one is Vista Business. One of them can access my Desktop fine over the network, the other one cant.

Im going crazy here because both have the same options and features installed, both are on the same network, both can see my desktop in the network map but the Vista Business just refuses to access it.

EDIT: My desktop is XP and has the LLDL or whatever the fuck it is installed.

LOL. Well, while I can't help you fix this problem, you may help me understand the circumstances. Why do you keep Vista instead installing XP? Here the sellers annihilate laptop's warranty if you touch the OS (i.e. get rid of the crap Vista). Is that your case?

Btw, I would really like OpenGL to get better enough to blow away DX10 only for the reason of breaking Vista's (actually Microsoft's) monopoly. I want these bastards to be taught a good lesson on how to play fair. Actually, I could bet they would arrange assassinations of responsible people, if someone broke it.

I really dont know why i ordered Vista on it. Well i guess i thought that since XP is off the support list, Vista will be longer lasting.

So, you just ordered it and there wouldn't be any consequences if you removed it?

No, but buying a new xp pro for a computer that wont be doing much, ever, at this time wouldnt make sense either. Its going to be a text/email laptop.

Hah... you're a really strange man. I don't care what the laptop is, I would make it run Win 3.0 if I wanted. But I prefer XP.

If I found a real beast with XP, I wouldn't wait for second thought. You simply can't find a good mech with XP here.

Well, if all you want to do with it is mail and text, perhaps Kubuntu might be worth a try. It installs fine besides Windows and even I can install it, so it's pretty easy.

Yea, honestly if I wanted a laptop for pure internet access or whatever, I'd go with Linux. I just like gaming on every box around so I use Windows, though I prefer XP to Vista so far.

Sorry I can't help you with your problem... not enough Vista experience to be of any assistance. Make sure all your firewalls are off, though. I wouldn't be surprised if Vista Business came with a firewall enabled by default.

lol. Everyone loves Vista. It's like the Windows ME of this decade. The best I hear about Vista is along the lines of

"Yea, it's ok for like media. Once you turn off all the annoying crap. And if you have at least 2 gigs of RAM. And if you're watching stuff without DRM and aren't outputting ultra-high def video."

Yea, ok, I'll pass.
