 Sony Sucks
...so.... just thought I'd share. I haven't much liked Sony since they screwed up Star Wars Galaxies, but as of recently I'm basically boycotting. Their most recent adventure was a $20 mail-in rebate...they got it, and they refuse to honor it. They don't out right refuse, of course, they jsut say they need "more information". Except that everything they ask for we already sent. Plus they lie. So, a small recap on why Sony blows.
1. Poor customer service.
2. Failure to honor a rebate.
3. Forcing Blue-Ray on consumers.
4. Surreptiously installing rootkits on pcs in the name of DRM.
5. Artifically playing up the PS3 to boost prices.
6. Artificially restricting hardware volume to boost PS3 prices.
7. Charging exorbitant rates on PS3s
8. Offering a non-upgradeable, inferior model of the PS3 (poor design)
9. Killing Star Wars Galaxies in an attempt to make more money off of it (big old backfire there).
10.Raping consumer and musical artists (along with the rest of the RIAA)
11.Being a bastard mega-corp
12.Not sending me huge amounts of money
13.Touching me in my daddy-dont-touch-me-there spot
feel free to add to the list.

I totally agree sat. Sony has been on my "dipshit companies" list for a good couple of years now. They used be someone you could go to and rely on.
My most recent (and will be my last) upset with them was the NWA 3000 Mp3 player i bought from them. A piece of shit to every extent to say the least, including most of all the software that came with it. It's as if they dont sit down and use their own shit before selling it to the millions.
1 million - 1, ill make sure of that.

Too bad Vanguard is being backed by Sony...I'll be doing that, more than likely. I used to respect the company until all this crap. The rebate was on a DVD burner...Sony's burners have always been top notch. But when the bastards refuse to honor a $20 mail in rebate, I'm done. Seriously....if you don't want to honor it, don't offer it. Whatever.
I'm glad the PS3 is flopping... basically the whole thing is a loss for them anyway, due to the insane price of blue ray...they were basically eating the difference in an attempt to force their blue-ray crap into the mainstream...and with the licensing fees off the format they would make a killing.
Instead...PS3 cost them big bucks, flopped, and (hopefully) took Blue ray with it. That just makes me happy. And continues the trend of really stupid business moves.
Death to Sony!

I wouldn't like to see Blu-ray flopping, Philips is one of the devlopers of the format.

It wont be the first time Sony data media has flopped. Remember the old rival of VHS?

Here Here!
I called the sony people when they sent me a post card saying that they would not honor the rebate and asked them why... it whent like this
Shiny- I received a post card that you were unable to send me my rebate - what is the problem?
Sony- We need a copy of the receipt - what you submitted was just the rebate and UPC.
Shiny- Well the rebate form was on a receipt - and since I know you received that you got everything that you need.
Sony - we need a receipt because it shows the date of purchase and purchase amount and store.
Shiny - my rebate form receipt had all of those things on it can you pull up a scan of what I sent you?
Sony - We need the receipt.
Shiny- Can I speak with a manager?
Sony - there is not one available at the moment call back in the morning we open at 8AM.
Shiny- What? that is not right what is insure I get a manager then?
Sony - we are less busy then.
2nd call:
Shiny - I would liek to speak with a manager - they told me last night I had to call back this morning.
Sony- we are unable to process because we do not have a receipt - go back to the store to get another copy?
Shiny - What for a 20 rebate you had no intention of honoring?
Sony- it says that on the rebate we can ask for additional information.
Shiny - OK Sony should not put a rebate out that they have no intention of honoring - I am done buying sony product. - hang up
Lovely huh?

The phone monkeys dont care Shiny. What happens is that Sony lose out on sales because internet users watch out for each other on this kinda stuff. To counter balance that, there are tons of bogus reviews out there that pop up in the top 50 of google results. The big corporations make absolutely no sweat in boosting the Page Rank of favourable review sites.

Yep sony has really taken a dive into a pool of crap. SOE is the biggest farm on sh**heads, retards and "insert nasty word here". They used to make good stuff, my Sony G520 monitor has been working flawlessly for many years now, i did have it cleaned once (the monitor was opened and cleaned from the inside). My brother has Sony plasma tv, which is a very good tv, not sure how long it will run tho, its 1,5 years old now i think.
Its nice to see how they stumble on their own greed.

The funny thing is, when you're a total bum, you don't have a choice but to boycot overcharging companies like Sony.
Discount stores and brands ftw

But then you need to be careful with certain discount brands too. For example, i once bought a Pico laptop for £1600, which was easily top of the line for its time, it had a P4 2.4 GHz CPU and Radeon 9000 card. It lasted for 1 year then i had to scrap it. The power adaptor blew up, costing £100 for a replacement, which i forked out for. But then the monitor and plastic chassis started to snap and bend. In the end, the monitor got fried and turned green, so it became too expensive to fix and i ditched the whole thing.
The trick with discount brands is to use those that are only well known.

Of course, but the more pc's I see/handle (not that I'm such a wizkid but I've seen a lot more than your average Joe Nopeesee), the more I get the idea that it's more luck than anything else. Even with 'quality' brands.
One thing's for sure tho: Maxtor HD's are teh 1337 suck never buying one again if I can avoid it

Depending on if it's my soundcard causing issues, I'm inclined to agree on the maxtor comment.
I hate sony too. I have a Sony Ericcson mobile, but I only like the ones without joysticks, and even then when I was working for o2, they were probably the most returned phones for manufacturing faults.
And the internet is crapping up big time at work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, images wont load etc.

Hehe, poor Sony, they really should stick to making tvs and monitors, thats the only thing they do well, everything else they touch is shit instantly.
