Basically, a study is showing that the average IQ of 11 year olds in the UK has dropped by a staggering amount. Like...if 30 years ago their IQ were 100, it's now 73.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Every year, GCSE results go up. Trouble is, every year something the year before had to learn is dumbed down or even removed. Saying "yay more A's than last year" looks good but it only works if you use the exact same exams. If you ask me everywhere is getting dumber. Most people outside of work will sit on the internet or watching tv. It's bound to happen. Specially as they're usually watching soaps

I think its more a culture thing. Kids nowadays have many more distractions. I'd tend to agree with it. I was pretty crap in maths and english at that age, mainly because i went to a shit school i think.

I was referring to an earlier article about the IQ of American school kids, pretty much said the same thing as this article but in a different age group. That they were on-par with most of the western world at younger ages but suddenly reach moron lvls later on.

You're 11 when you hit secondary school. And most kids who are gonna start smoking will start in Year 7 (first secondary school year for those who don't know how english schools work).

Where I lived and went to school was in an old agricultural market town. Far from the typical city type schools. We had kids from that town and many villages around, because of being in the middle of nowhere. And nearly every 'popular' kid started smoking in Year 7. In my 7 years there teachers were only attacked maybe.. twice. Compare that to the amount of times you might hear of a Leeds teacher being attacked and you'd probably think we were a bunch of church-going goody goodies there

Hull is very close to us as well. Hull is in fact the WORST city in Britain for teenage pregnancies. There has been, as far as I'm aware, a 9 year old there who was pregnant, and you hear of plenty of 11/12 year olds there who are pregnant. If they can get pregnant in Hull, they can get hold of cigarettes and drugs. And they're probably gonna turn into Chavs at the same time.
