WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Next month a new high-explosive munition will be fired in Singapore and then tested again by the U.S. Army, heralding what may be a sea change in weaponry: a gun that can fire 240,000 rounds per minute.

That's compared to 60 rounds per minute in a standard military machine gun.

Sounds like a long-range shotgun.

I have a question.

Why? What need to we have to bloody have an even more powerful weapon?

The article mentiones intercepting incoming missiles. Imagine in Iraq, a terrorist fires an RPG towards a US patroll, but on top of their hummer there's one of these ultra guns. As soon as some warning system sees the RPG, the gun bursts a curtain of bullets towards the RPG, blowing it up before it reaches it's target.

I think I get mole's point- why do we really need weapons if it just makes us eventually destroy our selves?

sounds lame. It's a bunch of one-shot barrels....totally useless except as where one shot is actually worth a shit. Or you strap more barrels together for more shots, but it's still lame. Comparing it to a Mk. 19 is retarded...a Mk.19 is a fully automatic, belt-fed grenade launcher...it's the freakin' pwnzor. It also only take 4 people to carry it. The gun is 50 pounds and the tripod is 50 pounds.

Anyway, my opinion is this "new article" is more propaganda from the company that's developing this "revolutionary" new gun...which isn't very revolutionary. I'm sorry to see the pentagon spending money on it.

That was my point exactly. More weapons doesn't only mean better defence for us, it means a stronger offence against us. Be it from our selves as a race, nation or specie. Or from the opressor. *looks at ox*

and I think that satis should learn mine and ox's new word, pwnager.

Which still hasn't appear at UD. *adds it again*

ok this is why. people are stupid. people invent stuff to protect themselves, but they're not content with protection, no, they want to kill the attacker. eventaully we'll wipe ourselves out and the world will be happy. all except the human side.

actually more likely its been invented for that girl to shoot more cars down ;)

meh, I'm not saying that at all. I love guns and weapons advancements. It's just that this isn't an advancement. It's just stupid.

I'd like to see a diagram or crossection of the system before judging it.
