So here ive been at uni, finishing off my assignments at the end of semester 1 year 2. Working like an idiot while my family back home is enjoying the usual grind of life (without me) and what happens? Finally my old mans case gets resolved and the charges waved. In his 20's, he was an irregular in the much misunderstood (by the west) Brigate Rosse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Brigades. He fled italy with my mother one day when he was about to pull into his families rural home and noticed the front of the house full of Carabinieri vehicles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carabinieri. He settled in Britain where my two brothers and i were born and since then he's been living pretty much in exile, waiting for things to progress in italy about the whole situation. Only recently however, we had found it a safe enough time to start looking into getting a lawyer in Italy to try and do something for him, to make it possible for him to return home. Today i get a call from the contact in Italy that he has successfully cleared his chance of getting sentenced if he were to step on italian soil again. Apart from the extatic feelings back at home, we are now starting to think about our next visit to Italy, together as a family. |

Your father was a Marxist revolutionary with ties to a group that kidnapped and assassinated a major figure in Italian politics? I'm surprised they're pardoning his involvement with what sounds like a terrorist organization. |

Clean bill of health from us? The fact he hasn't continued on with terror means that the Italian government might have let him off. |

Terrorist? Under todays definition yes. Under mine no. I draw the line when they also operate against the population. They were what the west may call partisans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partisan_%28military%29 |

they kidnapped a civilian and killed him in cold blood. That's terrorism. There's a rule in civilized warfare that puts civilians out of bounds...and killing a captive is a very big no-no. It's one thing if they'd shot up a military or police post, where armed men could have resisted. Kidnapping a political figure and then killing him while he's helpless is not the act of revolutionaries. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I'm glad your dad's being pardoned. I'm certain if he'd been actively involved in anything really bad he would've been extradited a long time ago. |

I think we have had this discussion before about what one thinks verse what the law states/andor definition. Anyway, I have to lean toward the side of Satis on this, but it sounds like your dad probably, knew a guy who knew a guy or something. Glad to hear your family isnt in exile anymore. |

Nah, he wasnt directly involved in anythin serious. As an irregular, this means he'd just give regulars places to sleep, things like that. I dont know the exact history on this subject, he's been reluctant to tell me anything about it over the years but as i gather, the essence is that post-ww2 italy consisted of two elements: 1. The ever typical italian fascist corrupt government artificially and secretly encouraged by the west to help fight the cold-war. 2. The populace, showing demand for a communist government. As i undertand it, the BR were a response to this oppression. The groups initial objective was to just to do things like kneecapping, robbing and sabotaging their targets. The point in which they killed that politician was the effective end of the BR's because half of them opposed it. So they split. At this point my dad quit, but as names started to leak and the (now) terrorists were getting arrested one by one, the organisation began to fall. During this time, he would have been arrested had he not evaded them. Again, its something i dont know a great deal about. Only the outline from his view, and from what little ive read. |

Hehe, yeah, chaos axes ftw. I only ever got one, but it was a gold one. ![]() Dmg: 6-28 (req 13 axe mastery) Dmg +17% while health is below 50% Armor penetration +10% (10% chance) Armor +6 (vs. elemental attacks) The high req kinda mucks it up, but it's not usually that much of a prob for a war. (not as much as for, say, a ranger). |
