So does that mean that a higher proportion of whites refused to move from the danger? |

"But the state's demographic information suggests that whites in New Orleans died at a higher rate than minorities. According to the 2000 census, whites make up 28 percent of the city's population, but the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals indicates that whites constitute 36.6 percent of the storm's fatalities in the city. African-Americans make up 67.25 percent of the population and 59.1 percent of the deceased. Other minorities constitute approximately 5 percent of the population and represented 4.3 percent of the storm's fatalities. " haha sorry but i just love that. African-Americans are 67% of the cities population... and they're still called a minority. |

But that's from the storm. In all there would still be a lot of black people stilll needing support in order to rebuild their lives. So technically it doesn't matter about those statistics and the gripe about Bush not helping is still valid. |

The stats you quoted were the dead from the storm. Now we know that the storm can hardly be discrimitary. Its the aftereffects that count in which the people were complaining about. Also what about the people still alive as well. It seems like a smokescreen article |

Maybe you dont remember what was in the news during and after the storm. The headlines read something like this "THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DEAD FROM KATRINA, MOSTLY BLACK" "HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF POOR PEOPLE DEAD FROM STORM"(picture of a black person) "HOW MANY DEAD?"(picture of some blacks) and on and on. The media was sensationlizing the death of black people in hurricane katrina as they do any news story. |

Well considering I'm British I don't quite have the same media as you. My main point was that there seems to be a lack of help for people for NO and this seems to be true to me considering the lack of aid. That is the view from which I am approaching it and the view of the British people that have seen what has been occuring. |

I think the problem was with Louisiana's government. |
