Post subject: | Miers Withdraws Supreme Court Nomination |
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/10/27/D8DGDFR00.html I believe that was the plan of the administration all along. They really had no intention of getting her into the judges seat. The real candidate they want will be the next one they put up. See, the administration got really lucky with Judge Roberts. They knew the democrats would let Roberts slide in but would make Bushes next judge nominee alot hard to get approved. So their tactic? Nominate someone off the wall and ultra conservative. The democrats will flip out over her conservatism and Washington will get all up in arms. Knowing this will happen they wait and tell Miers to withdraw, then they present their real candidate that is a conservative but not ultra. Then the democrats say "O this is alot better than Miers". Its like telling someone really really bad news before telling them good news thats not that good. The really really bad news is so bad that it makes the not so good news seem better. It also makes it seem like the President really wanted Miers and he is disappointed that he didnt get her appointed. It also makes it look like the democrates won a round when in reality they where allowed to score a point. |

Cynic. But probably true. |

I think he was trying to prove that the Republicans were actually doing better then the Democrats even though it didn't look like that...or something. It hardly sounded cynical to me, just like normal political tactics. It's basic haggling tactic, too: your first demand should always be too high/outrageous. If they accept it, w00t, if they don't they will look more favorable unto a lesser demand that is still slightly controversial. |

Rinox has it. Its like when your trying to sell something like a car. You have the price you want to sell it as then the price you list it as and hope it sells for more. Like lets say you trying to sell your car for $12,000. You want $12,000 but you list it in the paper as $15,000 because you know someone is going to call and offer you less than $15,000. You hope they will take it for $14,000 then you made $2,000 more than you wanted. |

I didn't doubt it tho. Its just that I hate the haggling politicians do. I wish they would remember what they are actually meant to do instead of cheap pointscores. |
