While other studies have shown that periodic use of marijuana can cause memory loss and impair learning and a host of other health problems down the road, new research suggests the drug could have some benefits when administered regularly in a highly potent form.

Its another argument for legalisation. I had one of my mates state it was because of white racist farmers trying to put the blame on the Mexicans and blacks.

lol, I didn't realize it was a competition.

I can't get the page to render in ie. Is it the same report with a different spin, or is it actually something different?

I believe here in the UK its just been categorised upwards as a class B drug. This is because they foound links between marijuana and degrading mental health.

jeez...I'd love to see some unambiguous research about that. And I'd like to see how it compares to alcohol. I know people that have drank themselves retarded.

The research is undoubtedly there. I mean, how hard is it to prove that a drug is bad for you?

Everything's bad for you in excess. In moderaion some things like alcohol is good for you.

Problem is where you draw the line.

Make all drugs illegal coz they're addictive: this would include alcohol and cigarettes. But then food is addictive to some people. Ban that?

Make it all prescription. Pop down the pharmacy for your daily pint.

Make everything available in large quantities and the pratts that drink/smoke/inject themselves to death are just helping evolution.

right. I don't think it's the government's right to say what we can and can't do to ourselves. Protect us from bastard companies that're marketing poison as pharmaceutical drugs, yes, but not to protect us from ourselves.

What about ourselves from others? If use of a drug makes someone dangerous, would you consider that something to regulate?

That's kinda funny, in a way: pot laws get looser and looser in Holland and over here, and get stricter in the UK? Lol, we're all maybe a few hundred miles away from each other...probably to do with the Uk being an island. Always makes for more distinction, even if there's only a 30 min. flight between Brussels and London.

Thats the beauty of Europe. :)

Do you think that in the far future, when the world is globalised, when the core concepts of society have changed away from what they are now, do you think that we will still smoke pot?

negativo.

First, there's not drug that I know of that has a 100% 'dangerous-making' rate. If there was, then sure, the government can regulate it only because it's basically a poison.

If you're talking along the lines of someone stringing themselves out on PCP and going on a robbing spree, no. It's not the drug's fault, it's the person that used it. I say you charge him with the things he did (breaking and entering, grand larceny, whatever) and leave the drug out of it.

I would also make counseling and rehab and such like that easily available, to help people recover if they were idiots and got addicted.

Oh yeah, Western europe has been making some major steps towards fully accepting the reality that is pot, so I think that with any further 'evolution' a general, global acceptance is a logical consequence.

I don't share that view on hard drugs though, as I ask myself the same question Pig just asked: do I want robbing/killing junks roaming the street looking for money for their fix? No sir. :(
