Good idea.

Poorly applicable.

Nice. I've been wanting to do that ever since seeing it in Donald Duck.

Anyway, y'all hear about Gordon Brown's latest fuck-up? After talking to an elderly voter, inside his car to the next event he forgot his mic was still on and called here a bigot:

Which gives me a good reason to post some Little Britain vids (yeah I know the show has gone downhill, but the first two seasons were great):

General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently.
Read his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children..
Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you have to love this!
This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.

In a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female broadcaster and
General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military Headquarters.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL COSGROVE:!
We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting..

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range..

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent for 46 seconds and when it returned, this interview was over.

Man, that's such a lame and over the top caricature question ('violent killers' thing). I mean, seriously, I'm not a gun fan but questions like that are just making everyone who has an issue with gun laws look like some hysterical extremist freak. But I suppose that goes for intelligent people and moderates in the pro-gun area too, ie being drowned out by the one-dimensial "guns hooo!" rednecks.

Well since the process of getting a legal firearm here is quite the anal surgery those who finally get their licence tend to hold on to it and probably have higher code of conduct. The people who belong to the same IPSC club as I are everything else but mad gun wielding rambos. And theres nothing wrong in learning how to effectively disable a firearm should someone who is not supposed to have or own a gun has come into possession of one. Learning the principles of how to safely handle a firearm is in its essence enforcing rule nr 1. Save your own ass first. :D

Imo, teaching someone to shoot is never a bad thing. If nothing else, you teach them gun safety, so if they ever come in contact with a gun, they know how to safely handle one. It's like teaching Ox how to drive... a good skill to have, even if he'll never take advantage of it. And in an emergency, it'd be damned handy. :)

On the topic of gun crazies, I do go shooting at an outdoor range in Texas. 99% of the people there are very responsible with their guns, and the ones that aren't are called out on it. I've rarely seen people that scared me with how they handled a weapon. Those that do... I get away.

I don't doubt that the vast majority people who are into guns use them responsibly. I just don't think they should be widely available over the counter. But that's another discussion. :P I wouldn't mind learning to shoot a gun or learning to drive a car, though. The former is just not very practical in Belgium and the latter is too much trouble. I already get tired thinking about taking driving lessons after work.

lol, what's wrong with that? You saying you'd let your puppy be carried off by a coyote?

Not that I carry a laser-sighted .380 ruger with me while running. Hmm...maybe I should. After all, Rick Perry does!

I just think it's so stereotypical. "Governor of Texas goes for a morning jog with his (bling bling) handgun in his belt and shoots coyote on his way". I guess the only thing you could blame him for would be that he may have shot a little too fast (if he dropped it with one bullet it would probably have been in rest or walking very slowly) but seeing as I wasn't there and have little experience with coyotes I have no idea. :) Besides, doesn't sound like coyotes are in any danger of extinction any time soon from the sound of the article.

I honestly don't blame Perry. I have stopped walking my dogs because I would constantly run into dogs that are loose and would chase my dogs. I don't want to hurt another animal but I do feel I should protect my dogs. The only way I could really do that was stop walking them. Very sad because they are both porkers!

And there are tons of coyotes around here. That is one reason you don't have outside cats here.
