Talking about police with Uzi's, the Italian government recently decided to let loose the military in cities. I wonder whether those so9ldiers at least get some training on how to deal with normal civilians.

lol. Italy is such a mess.

Did you hear about Berlusconi's plan to save (national airline) Alitalia? :) Berlusconi's plan is to start a few smaller organizations, then turn over the debts of the company to them and have them declared bankrupt so the actual company Alitalia will become financially healthy again.

I was listening to the news on the radio with a friend in his car, and we were both going..."isn't that, like, fraud?". The answer is, yes, yes it is. But in Italy, this is official state policy.

I actually made a long term decision yesterday to eventually move to Italy in 1-3 years time. I'm really not comfortable with the weather and lifestyle here in the UK anymore. I think i can do better.

Politics aside, I don't think street crime is that bad except for Napoli.

Alitalia is a sinking ship (or a crashing airplane). There's losing two million euros a day and they're not even a big airline. The only way to save it is with a takeover like Air France-KLM wanted to do but that fell through due to political reasons. Then Berlusconi wanted a mishmash of unrelated Italian companies to take it over, but already gave a good sign of that plan's feasibility by refusing to step in himself, while he's one of the richest men in Italy. Italy's still a beautiful country though.

Haha, if it weren't for the scenery and the history you wouldn't catch me dead in Italy (well, perhaps you would, as a result of some inadvertent mob hit).

Still, good on you Derfmeister. :) Think you'll move in with family or are you going to find your own place? Getting a job involving English shouldn't be too hard given the extreme suckage of Italians when it comes to speaking other languages.
