I heard of people doing that. It's because of the (microsoft-induced) shortage. Some poor retard somewhere has more money than common sense, and will buy X-Box 360s for way more than they're worth, rather than waiting for a couple weeks for the next shipment to arrive.
Well, bravo to your friend. It's not like it's underhanded...these people are begging to be fleeced.

I don't think MS created the shortage. It's just not economical to either have a huge storage of XBox's long before launch or creating a huge overproduction for a short while before and after the introduction. After all they do have an almost simultaneous global release.
And I think everybody buying an XBox 360 now is a huge twit. I would also try to resell it for big profit, but I don't think there will be a big shortage here.

I got to work this morning, and my manager told me he's gonna buy two of the full systems we have spare. Why? Coz he's already got people on ebay who are gonna pay... £1000 each. Yep. Buy the things for £280 each and sell 'em for £1000. Not bad eh.
Ox: You can just put a condition on the ebay auction telling them that you won't have the console til Dec 2nd but they can bid/reserve now.

I don't think that's smart of you manager. I don't think there will be a shortage in Europe.

Why The manager is fleecing people but the fact that he has already got offers means that he isn't just optimistic.

ha if you dont think there'll be a shortage. Everyone who's been in asking when we'll get the next batch of 360's in has been laughed out the door (in a polite, customer service kinda way)
PSP's are JUST starting to be properly available here. They came out in september. We started preordering back in July for 360's. The campaign was only open for 3 weeks before we filled them up. I preordered from the website on the very same day they started preordering. They don't have enough.
It's the same with virtually all new consoles, and if it's being brought out just before christmas its even worse. Heck, even the PS2 is gonna be short supply (though far easier to get hold of) and look how old that is.

it's on purpose. Shortage breeds the feeling that EVERYONE must have one. That, in turn, brings on the feeling that YOU must have one...if everyone else wants one, of course you do. ie, it artificially forces BUZZ, which is how shit gets sold in mad amounts. With enough buzz, even something crappy will sell like hotcakes.
Anyway, I think it's gay. But I'm not one of the little hangers on that has to have what everyone else has. I'm happy with my own opinion. Too bad most humans are retarded.

haha that link has sold for about a third of what the manager is selling them as. He put them as "Buy now" for £1000 and they've sold. Wish I could do it. hehe.
People are retarded. Parents don't stop to think anything may be in short supply. They promise their children "of course you can have a new xbox 360 for christmas". Then the store tells them "yeah. right. fuck off until February". Mummy gets desperate in case her loved child dies when he doesn't open a pretty new 360 on christmas day. Daddy ends up on ebay with his credit card. Ebayer ends up dancing all the way to the bank.

We still have homeless people, poor people, children dieing from hunrgy in africa, poor families with not enough food to eat, but people paying $1000 for a Xbox360.
This proves my point I made about a month ago. Consumerism. We are a mechanical society(the masses). work, buy/sell, eat, sleep, rinse repeat

I say we make Xbox 360 drops in Africa....even worse than world hunger is the tragically low number of 1337 African gamers. (but then, maybe we shouldn't drop consoles to remedy that )
