well, if you're being hit by an SUV, it's safer to be in an SUV. Otherwise the front bumper just goes through your side window and hits you in the chest. Overall, though, in an SUV - SUV collision vs a car - car collision, you're more likely to survive a car collision.

Unfortuanetly, it seems like half the vehicles on the road (at least here) are either SUVs or similarly stupdily large trucks. Either way, if I get slammed from the side I'm probably going to die. Yay progress.

Ohyeah? well take a look around buddy, i dont know how its in your country but here porsche (spelling?) jeeps and landcruisers and touaregs and patrols and other enourmos vehicles have never selled better. They are everywhere and whats even worse they drive like shit, they have absolutly no idea how big their car is and that they actually drive in partly in the second lane.

I think jeeps should require extra driving lessons before they are sold since they are too damn big.

SUV's are still pretty rare over here too, even though there are definitely more and more. Still, because of the different car culture and -probably most importantly- through the roof gas prices here it's hard to imagine them gaining a real foothold.

What I never understand is how SUV ownders plan to park their car in any European city. Actually, I always see them driving around, never parked...

well, I disagree. I think SUVs are an unhealthy indulgence, like cigarettes. However, the chances of me dying from second-hand smoke are probably alot less than the chance of me dying because I get run over by some fucktard driving a suburban while talking on his cellphone.

if people weren't pratts about driving, you wouldn't need SUVs coz there would be far less accidents (only really unavoidable ones). If you're a good and safe driver, then you're not likely to be in a crash anyway. If you have kids, don't drive them around after 6pm unless you gotta. Blah blah blah, etc. My dad is hardly the safest ever driver, but he's not a moron either (or wasn't lol) and we never came near a crash, so you can hardly use that as an argument for SUV's. SUV = americas obsession with "bigger is better"

We manage fine without SUV's over here, (though have a lot of landrovers) and you don't see kid corpses littering the road. Besides, what you bring up is the entire subject. We already discussed why alcohol and cigs are allowed when coke/pot etc isn't. And the whole food thing.

We'd be a lot better off as a race if everything you mentioned WAS banned. Eat only natural, grown stuff. Don't use cars, walk ffs. OR we go the other way about it, and let those stupid enough to use the unhealthy stuff use it. Let 'em die and get rid of their moronic genes.

The point of the whole conversation was that drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol are bad for you and pointless in the greater scheme of things. I still think we should be able to do them. Similarly, SUVs are unnecessary and dangerous, but people should still have the right to do them.

If someone gets coked out and kills someone, I think they should be tried for manslaughter/murder, and the drugs should be left out of it.

On an aside, I don't think it should be illegal for people to use cellphones while driving. I think they should have that right. However, I wish the fucking police would pull the pricks over that are swerving all over the road as a result and charge them with something. Before they kill people. Reckless driving or something. Or the dipshits that sit at a green light for 30 seconds because they're not paying attention. Or the people that don't signal before changing lanes. Or that don't stop at stop signs. Or that run red lights. Or that sit in the middle of an intersection to turn when they know they won't be able to, so they turn after the light's turned red. All those things are illegal, but I have very very rarely seen police ticket anyone for it, and it happens every day. *done venting*

On a more serious note, maybe getting a driving license in the US should be more difficult. It's a fucking joke. With so many people driving like shit, maybe the need for a heavy car is high, with more crashes around.
