Yes, life is everywhere, but in these unknown places I think there's less of it. So i dont think we can realistically expect to see massive squids. A bit like dinosaurss. They got big because there was a crapload of food and decent supply of steroids.

Meh, Ctuhlu doesn't need to eat. Just sleep. :P

But you're probably right. Otoh, don't understimate nature's ingenuity...up until a short while ago we also suspected that there was no life to speak of in certain immensely deep/cold/dark depths of the ocean. Until we found organisms who live without light for their development and instead just rely on heat and chemical reactions.

So bring on that giant squid!!

Well, there ARE giant squid. They live deep underwater and females can measure up to 13 meters long.

haha...it's only about a meter bigger, but the addition of spikes on its arms make it a whole lot meaner.

The giant squid is a lot of leg length, the colossal version has a far bigger, heavier body and shorter legs.

And the nerdiness never ends...
You could just leave it to RPG game designers to find a name for that one, after all a lot of creatures in those games are just replicas with different stats and an adjective before their name.
Hm we already have a zombie... I know, let's create a dread zombie too!

Oh yeah. And then there's dire, feral, shambling...the list goes on and on. I hate it when designers economize on enemy types. I mean, seriously, it's not that hard to think up some mildly interesting enemies. Drawing and animating them might take a little while but meh.
