Hmm, i'm not sure what i would be answering on the girl's question. Probably "Oh yes, you're totally the hottest chick around, there's no competition to that" with a wink and a smile. Actually depens how good you know her of course, and her sense of humor.

But surely not Ox' reply. That's ... too blunt. Honesty is overrated.
And if you're single (you i know, rethorical question  ), wth are you thinking. She's basically offering you sex. For free :P

Funny enough, i had the same problems with my CV and job interviews, untill i found out that i really wanted to become a teacher. I'm pretty sure that the principles of the school i'm at now really like my application letter. Because it was personal and enthousiastic, not some standard crap letter. But i couldn't bring myself to write such thing when i wasnt' that interested in the job.

What can i say? I'm too honest for my own good. I know honesty is overrated, but hey...at least people know what they get with me. I got some friends (not just female ones, at that) who have a habit of 'bursting out' like hours after I did/said something. When I say to them "why didn't you say something then? I asked you like 3 times if it's cool with you" they get all "you should have known it wasn't alright".

Yeah, sure. Whoop-ie-die-whoop. I'll put on my clairvoyance cap next time. I may be an asshole sometimes, but I prefer it over lame shit like that.

Job interview today, question:

"How can we be sure you'll stay with us for a longer time?"
"Erh...honestly, you don't. I'd like to start here but I can't promise I'll stay here for years on end."

Yeah, I don't think I got the job.

ugh, man. I think you just don't want a job.

"How can we be sure you'll stay with us for a longer time?"

"[company name] looks like a wonderful place to grow my skill set. As long as I'm challenged and continue to expand upon my abilities, I'll stay with [company name] and do my best to forward [company name's] goals."

Or something equally ass kissing. Then you work there 6 months until you find a better job. Rinse and repeat.

lol @ Derf wanting to drill my ass. Just another notch on my gun.

But seriously, want to hear something funny? That job interview I told you guys about, they actually want me! Hahahaha!! They said I came over very 'performant' whatever the hell that means. Looks like my charisma even trumps my honesty. :)

Not sure if I will take the job though. I have another job application running at the Nintendo Europe head office in Germany. It pays more and well, just seems more interesting. We'll see.

So, I took the job offer. I might still do what Derf suggested though, and take the Nintendo one instead. This one won't start before the end of July/start of August anyway (civil servant position and all...needs to be approved by 651651 people before they can offer me jack).

It ain't too bad, apart from the mediocre pay. Flexible work times, paid transport from home to work, 26 vacation days, etc etc. Oh and it's a nice location in the city, very central. We'll see how it goes...at least I'll have money in a few weeks. And hopefully a place of my own again. Meh.

26 days? FFS, you damn euros are spoiled. I get 15 days. :/

Grats on the job though. I'm assuming it's practically a done deal at this point, right?

lol, 15 days? That's sick. I wasn't counting public holidays of course..maybe you get more on he US? In Belgium you get these days off:

1st of January
Easter
Easter Monday
Christmas
1st of May (labour day)
Pentecost
Pentecost Monday
National Holiday (21st of July)
All Saints
Armistice (11th of November)
Ascencion day

That's all of them I think? So...*counts* 11 public holidays. Do you have more in the US, or less?

And yeah, the job should be a wrap-it-up-and-go now. I'm going to the police office in a bit to get an extract of my permanent record (which is blank, in case you wondered :P ), scan it in and send it to them. Then they get the process started....but like I said, it's civil service. It's gonna take a while.

Think that is bad I only get 10 days of vacation a year - and it does not even increase with years with the company. :(

Oh, I'm sure you can get plenty of vacation days over here. But you'd have to bring lots of work's stuff home to get it done in these days. Besides, while being on work, it can even happen to you to work 16 hours a day and have boss (on the end of month) saying s/he can pay you ~9 hours a day only, since the rest was illegal. :)

But normally, everyone should get 14 days here, plus holidays like New Year and Christmas.
