lol. I might just have to buy it now. I mean, watering plants is beneath me, but if I could do it technologically...

*Cough*
With the latest version, you can even install it within Windows (while remaining dual-boot). But the biggest growth market may actually be computer-illiterates who buy it pre-installed (from Dell for example). Those people have no expectations, while Windows power-users who try it often expect it to be Windows, just better.

Linux has a lot of really big problems with uptake. The biggest, in my opinion , is that installing it can be a pain in the ass. If it comes preinstalled, boom, you've got that hurdle gone. However, Linux's hardware support just isn't that great. It's better, but it's not awesome. And have you ever manually installed a driver in Linux? How about a graphics driver to run X-Windows on? I have. It SUCKS.
And then there's downloading and installing applications. With Windows, you download an exe, double click on it, hit next a few times and you're good. Not quite so easy with Linux. Do you have an rpm? Or a deb? Does your distribution support .rpm or .deb? Does your package manager understand doubleclicking on the package from a file manager window? Is it a tarball? Is it a source tarball here I have to compile the damned thing with gcc? In any of these cases, do I have all the dependencies I need?
Anyway, it's just a bitch. They really need to iron out some of these problems. I have chased dependency trails like 5 or 6 steps in before finally giving up. IE, trying to install package x. Well, package x requires package y. Try to install y... y requires package a and b. Install a. A requires package c & d. B requires package g and h. h conflicts with d so I have to step back a version so they don't conflict. Etc etc... it just gets more and more annoying.
As for the iphone watering can, omfg. Lamz0R!

The only solution would be for one distribution to marginalize the others. I think at the moment *Ubuntu has the best papers for that. Most of the problems you mention don't exist there, and it comes pre installed on a number of Dell computers. Besides, not many people (can) install Windows all by themselves either.

OK well it could be because I normally have had crappy phones that I am excited about it and phones are behind a lot in the US but I am seriously loving my phone. I have had no issues with internet, I love the easy access to email and driving directions. I am just breaking into it and I tend to be a bit tech challenged until Satis shows e the really cook features but I like it. I honestly have not figured out how to load it with my music yet but I have only tried for like 10 min. this morning before work and I am so NOT a morning person.
Dunno - it probably would not take a lot for me to get excited about a phone since my last (well one before last was such a POS) My last would have been cool except my phone company fucked up. I only had that phone for like 4 months and I gave up on it.
